Contargo Restructures Rail Mode Offering

Container logistics network Contargo has launched a new company, Contargo Rail Services GmbH, designed to consolidate and expand the Group’s already-existing rail activities. The trimodal service provider of container hinterland transport has now bundled the activities of each transport mode into an individual company (Road Logistics, Waterway Logistics and Rail Services).

Contargo Rail Services GmbH has its headquarters in Mannheim and will be headed by two rail experts from Contargo: Andreas Mager was with the operator Hupac for several years before coming to Contargo, and Michael Lückenbach (both pictured) previously worked in several different areas with DB Cargo/DB Intermodal and Transfracht.

“Our aim is to set the right course for the rail transport mode within the Contargo Group” says Andreas Mager, Co-Managing Director of Contargo Rail Ser-vices GmbH. “We want to establish the new company as a strong operator in the intermodal road/rail sector.”

The founding of the new company does not affect existing customers; contact partners and telephone numbers remain unchanged. Rather, the bundling of rail know-how is intended to enable the development of new train products in future – for instance, products that also involve terminals not belonging to the Contargo Group, explains Michael Lückenbach, Co-Managing Director of Con-targo Rail Services GmbH.

“Because Contargo Rail Services will also act as an operator, Contargo will now be a full service provider for all three transport modes”, says Michael Lückenbach. “And our terminal sites will also benefit from the bundling of procurement and from unified processes and workflows, which will give em-ployees and management additional time for their core activities.”

Contargo integrates container transport between the western seaports, the German North Sea ports and the European hinterland. The enterprise has 25 container terminals at its disposal in Germany, France, Switzerland and the Czech Republic and maintains offices at seven additional locations in Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium.
