Verdion Completes Amazon Mega Shed at South Yorkshire Site
31st July 2017
Real estate investor and developer, Verdion, has completed construction of the new 1.1 million sq ft (102,190 sq m), £100 million logistics facility for Amazon at iPort, its 6 million sq ft (557,400 sq m) strategic rail freight interchange in Doncaster, South Yorkshire.
The bespoke warehouse is 0.5 kilometres in length – the size equivalent of 14 football pitches – while the building design itself is state of the art, with an interior fit-out design and specification that is cutting edge and unique to Amazon.
John Clements, European Development Director, Verdion, comments: “We are delighted to have completed on schedule, less than 12 months after signing the deal with Amazon – extremely quick for such a large and complex project.”
Gent Visick, CBRE and Colliers are letting agents for iPort.
Robert Whatmuff, Director in Colliers International’s Leeds office’s Industrial and Logistics division added: “Verdion’s iPort scheme was the key driver of take up in 2016 (2.3m sq. ft. in total on the scheme) and is set to be Yorkshire’s premier logistics site. Aside from Amazon taking around 1.3m sq. ft in two units on the development, a further 1m sq. ft. has also been leased to Lidl, Fellowes and Ceva. The scheme’s success to date has prompted Verdion to continue its speculative build programme with a 195,000 sq. ft. unit recently completed and available with further speculative development announced shortly. There are currently 3.4 million economically active people within 45 miles of the site so the project is also set to create plenty of job opportunities for the region’s community.”
