STERTIL DOCK PRODUCTS HELP SUPPORT PORT OF TYNE IMPORTER
6th January 2015
Following the successful use of loading bay equipment supplied and installed by Stertil Dock Products, a leading importer and distributor has recently specified an additional two bays to support its operations at the Port of Tyne.
The Port of Tyne in North East England is one of the UKs major deep sea ports – a vital trading gateway into Europe and beyond. It is the UKs fastest growing major deep sea port, supporting 10,500 jobs and contributing over ?500m to the nations economy. The success of the port has attracted many accolades over the years including the prestigious Port of the Year title at the National Transport Awards in October 2014.
Specified to help sustain the companys impressive growth, the two new bays are located alongside two identical installations supplied by Stertil Dock Products almost 20 years ago. Within each bay, the equipment comprises a Stertil HP700-12 pit-mounted dock leveller, a WS574 dock-mounted fixed dock shelter, a roller shutter door, PE750 yellow dock bumpers, wheel guides plus LED dock and traffic lights. Featuring a high-visibility yellow finish, the bays are used to simplify the loading and unloading of a range of road transport including articulated lorries, trailers and container vehicles.
The HP700-12 dock leveller is the perfect, heavy duty solution to meet the importers demanding requirements. A 2700mm long platform, incorporating a hydraulically-operated swing lip, ensures safe access to vehicles for fork trucks during loading and unloading duties. Also, in common with the original installations, the 12 tonnes rating of the two new levellers provides ample capacity for the movement of a diverse range of individual and palletised loads that include engine components, bottled goods and general freight.
The original two loading bays have supported our customers operations extremely well so we were very pleased to clinch the order for two identical installations to help sustain his growing business, says Andy Georgiou, general manager of Stertil Dock Products. Over the past 20 years, the existing Stertil loading bays have provided excellent service and reliability in a demanding, non-stop application so it was almost a formality to be specified once again.
