UK Freight Specialist Completes First Rail Delivery from China
25th September 2017
UK freight provider CML has successfully completed its first ever rail freight delivery from China. With the advantage of being cheaper than air freight and faster than sea, CML made the decision to utilise rail freight following a request to transport heavy weight, high value production parts for a client that was faced with a production line stop, had the goods not arrived within 28 days.
The 4,957-mile inaugural journey along parts of the old Silk Road from Shenyang in China to Duisburg in Germany took 18 days to complete, nearly two weeks quicker when compared to general far east sea freight, and provided CML with the perfect solution when it needed to move its clients stock quicker as CML’s Freight Operations Manager, Pat Treanor, confirms:
“When our client came to us to find out whether we were able to find a form of transport that was not only able to move heavy weight, high value production parts, but also within a certain time frame, rail freight provided us with the best option. By using rail freight, we found a middle ground between cost and speed of delivery, meaning that we were not only able to offer great value for money, but it also meant that the goods could be moved much quicker when compared to using sea freight.
“This is not only the first time we have utilised a rail freight service from China to Europe, but it is also the first time our client has made this their preferred option. We’re delighted with how our first rail delivery has gone and we look forward to using this form of transportation for many more of our clients in the future.”
Having successfully managed the process of transporting its client’s products from China to the UK within the timeframe, CML has subsequently booked three additional rail freight containers for this client.
