Unique Total Double Deck Solutions at CV Show 2018
6th March 2018
Transdek UK is demonstrating its unique total double deck solutions expertise with a working scenario of an Urban Wedge Max double deck trailer docked onto a modular V2G (vehicle to ground) loadhouse pod at the CV Show, NEC Birmingham on 24-26 April. The company will also be exhibiting one of its ambient Wedge Max trailers on stand 3E100.
The double deck innovator’s Urban Wedge Max trailer offers a capacity of 72 roll cages, and at 10.6-metres long is ideal for delivering to retail parks and urban areas where standard trailer lengths are restricted. It carries up to 100% more payload than an equivalent urban artics and 150% more than a typical 18 tonne rigid HGV, giving mileage savings of up to 60%.
The Urban Wedge Max has a patented chassis and body design, based on the award winning design of Transdek’s 13.6-metre Wedge Max used for high volume distribution on primary trunking routes, and is available in various ambient and chilled configurations.
Paul Avery, Managing Director, Trailers at Transdek UK, commented: “With the growing problem of congestion in urban centres, particularly in major UK cities such as London, Manchester and Aberdeen, our Urban Wedge Max offers a unique solution to reducing the number of vehicles on deliveries by up to 50% to 60%. With options for steering axles, double deck artics can manoeuvre much more nimbly than smaller rigid trucks. We believe these vehicles will come to play a major role in combatting the mounting environmental and economic challenges that face the urban freight transport sector.”
Both double deck trailers feature Transdek’s innovative V-Glide sash type rear doors, which slide vertically within the rear frame, ensuring only one deck is open at a time.
The V2G lift married to the Urban Wedge trailer is a bespoke design produced for a global online retailer that features Transdek Connect, which provides live data for rapid analysis and resolution of technical issues, and full service and maintenance history. A Transdek designed bi-fold bridge plate is also fitted and the lift has a 5.5 tonne capacity, is eight metres long and can carry nine 1000mm x 1200mm pallets.
Leon Butler, Managing Director – Modular Loading Solutions, said: “We aim to ensure that every customer has the most efficient double deck and overall distribution operation possible. We achieve this by taking a holistic overview of both trailers and the loading bay to ensure that every aspect of a project provides the best possible solution not only in its own right, but also as part of the whole.
“Visitors to the show will be able to see how efficiently our V2G lifts can load a double deck trailer at a flat floor site, and how both lift and trailer integrate seamlessly with each other. Through our design and manufacturing teams we can provide total solutions for our customers that ensure maximum payload per trailer along with maximum loading speed and efficiency.”
Unlike conventional lifts, the V2G is part of Transdek’s wide range of flexible surface-mounted pre-tested pod units that can be fitted and operational within a day. The modular nature and versatility of the lifts is clearly demonstrated by Transdek’s ability to install its equipment at events, such as the CV Show, in a short time window.
The unique bridge plate featured has been developed to enhance operator safety, provide easier access to the rear trailer doors following docking and accommodate double deck trailers, last mile delivery runs and temporary cross dock centres.
