SkySorter debut in packaging technology
31st July 2015
Swiss company Ferag AG is coming to Nuremberg for the first time ? with SkySorter. The new system, a development of the Skyfall overhead conveyor technology introduced last year, not only offers a highly efficient transport function in the tightest of spaces, but also a whole range of accumulating, sorting and order-picking options. Thanks to advanced modularity, and with a maximum load per hanger of 30 kilograms, Ferag has identified a broad spectrum of applications for this innovative technology in packaging processing and packaging logistics.
At the centre of Hall 4A on Stand 4A-425, FachPack visitors will experience a fully operational demo installation of the newly developed overhead SkySorter. On show will be processes that are typical for the transfer of goods between first and second packaging. Also integrated into the circuit will be feed lines where the emphasis is on the comprehensive accumulating, sorting and sequencing functions of this Skyfall version, which is being showcased for the first time in the area of packaging technology. At the same time, Ferag will be presenting examples of the different pick-up adaptors for the hangers, which have now been designed for loads up to 30 kilograms. On the FachPack stand, it will be possible, for example, to see pocket sorters for the transport of fashion and packaged items, as well as carriers for food containers. In principle, individual adapters can be conceived in line with the customers own specifications for almost any application.
In Nuremberg, every visitor to the show will immediately appreciate how easily and smoothly the Skyfall trolleys roll along their stable, light-metal, overhead rail. As a result, the complete Skyfall family including SkySorter gets by with only a few drives. As a rule, one drive is all thats needed for an eighty-metre section. On descending sections, the innovative technology operates by gravity alone, making the Skyfall conveyor an extremely energy-efficient system thats literally friction-free and also incurs hardly any servicing and maintenance costs. Then there is the fact that the flexibility and exceptional modularity of the system allow it to adapt to the most varied spatial conditions; even the most difficult situations, as often found in older buildings, are no problem for Skyfall. The separate elements of the sophisticated, modular Skyfall system such as continuous conveyors, accumulating, ascending and descending conveyors, loading and unloading stations, inlet and outlet switches, etc. can easily be integrated into practically any environment ? and also extended or adapted at very little outlay. Thanks to its overhead design, the new materials flow system is also extremely compact; theres always enough free space on the floor for storage, work stations or other uses.
