Ewals Cargo Care UK & IE division has begun the introduction of 27 new Volvo FH Aero trucks into its local fleet, marking a significant investment in efficiency, driver comfort, and long-term fleet sustainability.
The first five vehicles have now been delivered, with the remaining units scheduled to arrive at a rate of approximately five trucks per week subsequently. All 27 vehicles will be based and operated in the UK, forming part of ECC’s ongoing routine fleet replacement programme, rotating out older vehicles for the newest and latest vehicles.
While the Volvo FH Aero is new to the UK operation, the model is already well proven within Ewals Cargo Care’s continental European fleet, where similar vehicles are successfully utilised by the company’s European operations.
Once delivery is complete, the addition of the FH Aero units will bring the ECC UK truck total to approximately 90 vehicles, with them operating a mixed fleet sourced from multiple market leading manufacturers. The decision to invest in the FH Aero was driven, the company says, by a clear business case, with the balance between purchase price and running costs making the model a logical and competitive long-term investment.
A key innovation of the Volvo FH Aero lies in its aerodynamically optimised cab design. New EU regulations allow the cab to be slightly longer, improving airflow around the vehicle and significantly enhancing fuel efficiency. The use of camera mirror systems in place of traditional mirrors further reduces drag, contributing to lower fuel consumption and emissions.
Despite its focus on efficiency, the FH Aero continues to deliver on driver comfort and usability. The trucks are equipped with modern driver conveniences designed to maximise comfort, visibility and ease of operation — supporting driver satisfaction, retention and performance across long-haul operations.
