Italian Automator OCM Delivers New Facility to DHL Express Bulgaria

Italian material handling specialist OCM has delivered a new automated facility to DHL Express Bulgaria. The Sofia facility became operational at the end of the last summer.

Together with the automated sort machine, capable of handling volumes as per business needs, OCM provided the express courier with the intelligent software, to manage all processes. Considering the upwards trend of express market, the sorting system has also been designed to improve production processes in the next 10-15 years and keep up with changes. The OCM modular approach to automated solutions enables the sorting system to have flexibility and remain expandable over time. The use of high-quality built-on-standard modules has positive effects on new operational centres calculating all lifecycle assembly from set up to maintenance.

The automated solution in Sofia applies the OCM Switch Wheel technology which provides positive, high-capacity and high-accuracy sorting for parcels of widely varying shapes and sizes. The system is bidirectional processing both inbound and outbound operations.

This new sorting system handles and manages international and domestic parcels and helps the customer improve production processes and increase cost efficiencies.

Clark Reacts to IFOY Final Shortlist Nomination

Forklift maker Clark has responded to its final shortlisting for the 2019 IFOY Awards, to be held later this Spring. The company said:

“The S-Series consists of the S20-35 diesel and LPG forklifts with superelastic or pneumatic tyres and the S20C-32C LPG forklifts with cushion tyres. The trucks are available with load capacities from 2 to 3.5 tonnes and are the first choice wherever high handling performance and availability are decisive  such as in tough multi-shift applications in industry, trade and distribution.

In addition to proven system components, the Clark S-Series for the first time uses active safety systems and a new smart information system. In addition, the driver’s workplace has been completely redesigned. Operators benefit from robust trucks in this series that guarantee reliable and safe operation even under the toughest operating conditions with low total cost of ownership (TCO). Drivers can look forward to significantly greater comfort, which ensures fatigue-free working throughout the entire shift. Clark’s aim is to increase safety and efficiency when using forklifts and at the same time reduce material handling costs while maintaining a very good price-performance ratio. The truck nominated for the IFOY Award is the S25 gas forklift of the S-Series 20-35 with a load capacity of 2.5 tonnes.”

The IFOY Awards will be judged in early March with the final to be held at Vienna’s Hofburg Palace in late April.

Improved Pedestrian Pallet Trucks and Stackers from Toyota

Toyota has added features to its BT Levio & BT Staxio pedestrian W-models, which it says offer even more fit for (un)loading, stacking and horizontal transport in confined areas.

The stackers can be equipped with low-noise hydraulics as option, for a lower noise level. This makes these trucks ideal for working in noise-sensitive and quiet environments such as supermarkets, shops and on-board lorries during night-time deliveries.

The BT Staxio W-series is now also available with a weight indicator that displays an estimation of the load weight on the forks. This prevents the lifting of too heavy loads, as well as overloading lorries, elevators and loading docks.

The BT Staxio SWE080L-140L stackers with initial lift can transport two pallet loads at the same time (one on the support arms and one on the forks), while the BT Staxio SWE200D is designed specifically for double stacking. The ability to transport two loads at the same time contributes to higher productivity.

The battery lid cover and motor cover of all BT Levio & Staxio W-models have been updated for improved robustness, aligning the design with the rest of the product family.

Both W-series can be equipped with speed reduction when cornering, making them ideal to handle tall and unstable loads. This improved stability prevents damages and injuries from happening, for enhanced safety in the workplace.

Lithium-ion battery power and Toyota telematics come as standard.

New Thermal Packaging Solutions for E-Food

The European e-commerce market for food and beverages was valued at €15.06 billion in 2018 and is expected to grow at an average rate of 11.3% per year. Ranpak’s new WrapPak Protector solution is designed to support that growth, by providing the food cold chain market with a sustainable and reliable way of transporting food to customers.

Dan Roumen, Product Manager, said that a unique waved paper insulates boxes for up to 48 hours: “This is a simple and more sustainable solution that reduces costs, saves space and minimizes overall handling requirements, compared with traditional systems. WrapPak Protector uses waved papers that suit many different box sizes and packaging configurations, for a truly flexible packaging environment. We are offering standard solutions with 1, 2 or 3 layers of paper, to reflect the requirements of ambient, chilled and frozen stored products – anything from chocolate and groceries to frozen food.”

Users with specific demands also benefit from Ranpak’s climate room, where they can test and compare thermal packaging solutions.

Additional options ensure that any packaging configuration can be achieved easily. PadPak thermal paper insulation protects vulnerable products in smaller boxes, and FillPak prevents temperature losses by conduction. Ranpak Geami both protects and insulates, as well as providing a premium unpacking experience, with its combination of patented die cut kraft paper and a tissue interleaf paper. All of Ranpak’s natural packaging solutions are 100% recyclable, renewable and biodegradable.
