Dachser UK to Build €16 Million DC at Rochdale Site

Dachser is to build a new 5,175 square metre logistics centre in Rochdale, UK to replace its existing distribution facility. The development of the 3.7 hectare (9.2 acre) site represents a €16 million (£14.4 million) investment by the company.

Since the acquisition of J. A. Leach Transport Limited in 2010, including the current site of Dachser operations in the North of England, business has grown fivefold, necessitating the warehouse expansion.

“Our significant investment is evidence of Dachser’s commitment to the UK market and our optimistic view on the future of both import and export trade with the rest of Europe,” commented Mark Rollinson, Managing Director Dachser UK.

Located on the Kingsway Business Park adjacent to the Trans-Pennine motorway, the M62 at junction 21, the new facility will have 49 dock loading doors and an additional four level access doors. There will be an internal area of nearly 7,000 square metres, including office space.

Dachser UK currently employs a total of 448 people, 106 of whom are based in Rochdale where the company expects to create many jobs over the next five years.

Iptor Launches Next Generation of Open API Framework Platform

Iptor Supply Chain Systems (Iptor), a leader in supply chain management, planning and logistics software and services, has launched ‘aperio version 2’ – the next evolution of its open integration platform. aperio has the ability to open up any IBMi infrastructure implementation, providing comprehensive cloud integration and a powerful development studio to release the rich functionality of core ERP systems to a connected world.

As well as being available for Iptor distribution and publishing customers, aperio v2 will be accessible to non-Iptor customers using IBM technology stacks and will be available from the end of February.

The open API architecture consists of 3 layers:
• a back end which hosts methods and API lifecycle management
• a middle layer handling connection pooling, security / authentication, logging and connection monitoring
• a front end which hosts HTML 5 rendering.

Enhanced components include a graphical signature, bank ID to support document and transaction signing, web push notifications to subscribe to and clearly display asynchronous messages coming from the back-end application, a form control to compose email messages and a component to manage calendar events.

Nordic technology business, EVRY, recently decided to use aperio for their integration and connectivity roadmap for ERP TRYGG/2000, developing mobile web applications using the aperio mobile development studio.

Southgate Heat Sealer Range Now Includes Digital Technology

Following in the footsteps of the S-Type, the new E-Type impulse heat sealer range features digital technology that increases productivity and seal quality. Sealing temperature and cycle time are now set and adjusted precisely on a digital display mounted unobtrusively on one arm of the sealing bar, giving more flexible control over seal quality and energy consumption.

Adaptive Sealing Cycle Control (ASCC) automatically adjusts the sealing and cooling time to suit the working cycle speed so that the sealing wires do not overheat during extended, high-frequency use – a common cause of premature wire burn-out and maintenance downtime.

The treadle-action pedal that mechanically lowers the sealing bar has been replaced on the E-Type with an electrical foot pedal connected to a motorised sealing bar. Now the operator can place the pedal exactly where it is most convenient and the head movement is faster and more consistent. An extra-wide 1320mm seal length model has been added to the range for larger applications and all five models ranging from 420mm to 1320mm can be supplied with an optional floor stand incorporating a film roll holder and a work table with height-adjustable bag support.

The E-Type comes with an ingress protection rating of IP33 as standard. This means that the unit is protected against the insertion of any object larger than 2.5mm (the IP23 rating of the S-Type only protects against objects larger than 12mm) and from water sprayed at any angle less than sixty degrees from vertical. Optional IP44 rating further reduces these limits to 1mm and water spray from any direction. The standard finish for the E-Type is the classic Hacona orange powder coating, with an optional silver anodised finish for food processing use.

Southgate will be supplying the E-Type through its established network of approved distributors throughout the UK and across Europe.
