Rack Armour Protection System on Show at ProMAT

Rack Armour will be exhibiting its product, installed by some of the world’s biggest brands, such as Wal-Mart, Tesco, BMW, Audi, Office Depot, Mercedes, IKEA, Kellogg’s, McDonalds, Nestle, Toyota, Pepsico, Coca Cola, DHL, and Eddie Stobart, at this year’s ProMAT in Chicago, Illinois from 8-11 April.

After months of research and testing Rack Armour came up with the product, a cylindrical HDPE shell teamed with an absorbing foam interior, capable of dissipating impact energy effortlessly. Many of the original units are still installed on the original sites after more than eight years, with only the foam needing replacement, highlighting the obvious benefit of installing the guard over anything else. Rack Armour is now sold in over 80 Countries and manufactured on three continents.

The Rack Armour upright protector was subject to thousands of hours of design and testing before the final model was completed and perfected. The guard has been subject to the most stringent and vigorous of testing to ensure it complies with all European legislation including FEM 10.2.02. FEM is the most internationally recognised and one of the most up to date (having been updated in 2001) of all testing standards. Rack Armour has met and exceeded the requirements of this standard for both front and side impacts, which was certified by experts at an independent industry leading engineering organisation.

Meet Rack Armour at Booth S1849.

Varta Li-ion Battery Tailored for Robots Under Live Current

From electrically driven forklift trucks, sweeper machines or humanoid robots, in industrial production halls, it is extremely important to have the right power supply. The energy provided must be high-power and reliable. Lithium-ion batteries are considerably more efficient and powerful than the lead acid batteries that are still widely used today. For example, with 100 watt hours per kilogramme, they have three times the energy density of a lead battery.

As well as tailor-made battery solutions, the Power division at VARTA Storage now also offers the EasyPack Industrial: standardised ready-to-use lithium-ion battery packs designed for use in the “industrial/robotics” area.

EasyPack Industrial is a high-capacity, rechargeable lithium-ion battery that is precisely tailored to use in robot devices. Customers receive a battery solution that can be used immediately. No external battery management system is needed. The battery is available with a 24-volt voltage. Two further sizes are being planned, with the result that all industrial applications can be covered – from forklift trucks to logistics robots to pallet trucks in the warehouse. Additionally, several units can be connected in parallel, which further increases capacity.

The advantages are clear: “Developing a separate, individual battery solution involves an expensive and lengthy process. It can easily take a year, and costs add up to six-figure sums” says Gordon Clements, General Manager from VARTA Storage. Such a procedure is not needed for every application. With the standardised EasyPack Industrial battery solution, VARTA is also offering start-ups and small companies the option of using the tried and tested VARTA battery quality. For 130 years, the VARTA brand has stood for experience in battery development and the highest safety and quality standards.

As well as the EasyPack Industrial series, VARTA also offers the standardised EasyPack S to XL and PLUS series for smaller applications such as medical appliances or mobile payment terminals. Last year, the VARTA EasyPack XL flew to the ISS, where it measured the muscle tension of the astronauts in a medical appliance.

VARTA Storage is an affiliate of VARTA AG and develops and produces lithium-ion battery packs for various applications, as well as stationary energy storage systems for households and commercial applications.

New TVH UK Warehouse “Will Meet All Brexit Outcomes”

Material handling parts and accessories supplier TVH has acquired a large new warehouse in the UK Midlands. This Stephen Smallbone (above), TVH UK General Sales Manager and John Percy, Managing Director of Bepco UK, say the new facilities will guarantee the excellent level of service customers have come to expect.

“In order to guarantee long-term support for our customers in the UK market, we have now purchased a warehouse right in the centre of the UK – in Kidderminster, Worcestershire,” Smallbone announced yesterday in a direct mail to their UK customers.

He continues: “This solution is twofold. Firstly, the Kidderminster warehouse is currently 130,000 square feet with the future possibility to extend to 185,000 square feet. This removes once and for all the effect of possible customs or aircraft/air-bridge delays on urgent deliveries for parts that will be stocked in our UK warehouse. Secondly, we expect our enlarged UK warehouse to offer our customers later cut-off times for order placing. Whatever the outcome of the Brexit negotiations, the construction work is expected to start soon so that the warehouse will be operational within a year.”
