Zero-Emission, All-Electric Home Deliveries

Thermo King®, a leader in transport temperature control solutions for a variety of mobile applications and a brand of Ingersoll Rand, partnered with Mercadona, a Spanish physical and online supermarket chain, to add one new fully electric refrigerated vehicle to the fleet carrying out deliveries from Mercadona’s online store operations in Valencia.

The project is aligned with Mercadona’s Corporate Social Responsibility Plan and their Sustainable Urban Distribution Project, aimed at improving the air quality in cities by using vehicles that are propelled by the cleanest, most efficient fuels. It’s part of Mercadona’s strategy to commit and invest in environmentally friendly, sustainable transport and logistics fleets in order to contribute to reducing emissions and improving air quality in cities. Mercadona chose to work with Thermo King on this electric van project because of the company’s expertise and leadership in developing electric, intelligent and sustainable refrigerated transport.

“Mercadona representatives visited our manufacturing facility in Barcelona, where we have been successfully working on combining our vehicle powered and full electric refrigeration units with the latest electric trucks and vans,” said Eneko Fernandez product management leader at Thermo King. ”As a result, we decided to work together to create and test this combination of clean distribution and refrigeration technologies, which brings sustainable zero-emission last mile deliveries to Mercadona’s customers.”

“This project in Spain is part of our vision, where our solutions help transport foods and goods safely with zero-emission, no noise and maximum convenience for urban populations,” said Pauli Johannesen, vice president and general manager for Truck, Trailer and Bus at Thermo King in Europe, Middle East and Africa.”Thermo King is a leader in electrification in the transport climate control industry. We have the largest range of zero and low-emissions solutions in all segments of the market and we continue to invest in innovations that will help customers stay ahead of regulation, control their total cost of ownership and residual value, increase efficiency and achieve important sustainability goals.”

The new sustainable home delivery vehicle combines the Maxus electric truck with the Thermo King multi-temperature unit capable of cooling and maintaining the set temperature levels of the vehicle’s three compartments for fresh, frozen and dry products. The vehicle has a capacity to transport seven online-orders per trip and is part of the Mercadona fleet carrying deliveries from its ‘Hive’, online sales warehouse, in the province of Valencia.

Trailer Services New Branch

Leading trailer company TIP Trailer Services has seen its Manchester branch move to a new, improved location less than a mile from its previous location, strengthening its trailer services proposition in the North West of England. Based in the Carrington area of Manchester and just off the M60, the new branch is now fully operational and equipped to provide trailer rental, maintenance and repair services to customers throughout Manchester and the surrounding areas.

The new Manchester branch location has a 6-bay workshop, complete with a brake roller test facility for it’s 2,000 trailers. The Carrington facility forms part of a trio of branches in the North West of England ensuring TIP has comprehensive cover in this important part of the UK logistics network. TIP Simonswood, based on the outskirts of Liverpool and TIP Nelson, based just off the M65 in East Lancashire, are TIP’s other two branches in the region, both offering a range of trailer rental, maintenance and repair services to transport operators based throughout the north-west.

Jacqui Keeley, Regional Operations Manager for the three TIP North West branches, comments, “The North West of England has always been a key area for our business and we believe that having three strategically located branches in the region ensures we are best placed to provide a truly comprehensive service to transport operators here.”

TIP’s headquarters is also in Manchester and easily accessible from the M60 motorway, on the outskirts of Trafford Park offering customers, and potential customers, a ‘meet and greet’ facility with TIP management teams, in addition to housing the company’s customer services, finance, IT and marketing staff.
