Green-for-Go Enables Best Use of Battery Charging System

Battery manufacturer Exide Technologies says it is seeing increased uptake of GNB EasyPick. The “straightforward and cost-effective” system can optionally be enabled in GNB chargers, and ensures that the first battery charged is the first battery selected for use. It protects battery lifespan, increases operating hours and enhances productivity, and is an excellent choice for smaller operations not yet ready to make the investment in a full battery fleet management system.

EasyPick is simple, reliable and user friendly. Operators just “pick the green one” – a green light indicates which battery to select first. An amber light identifies batteries that are fully charged and queued. Whenever the priority battery is taken the next in the queue will turn green.

This works for up to 30 chargers. One controlling charger is needed for each battery type, which can then manage the others. The controlling charger sounds an alarm if a wrong battery is taken, reinforcing the correct operation of the system. The result is elegant and easy to understand for any workforce.

GNB chargers with EasyPick are simply plug & play. You may start right away without a service technician, saving labour costs and set-up time. The system is cost-effective and gives businesses a strong return on investment.

Gebhardt Shuttle System Aims to Boost Warehouse Capacity and Efficiency

Automation specialist Gebhardt says its Shuttle StoreBiter 500 is the new benchmark when it comes to warehouse capacity, flexibility and efficiency with the storage of pallets, box pallets and containers.

The shuttle vehicle itself performs the function of a load handling device. The flat lifting shuttle can transport the conveyed goods in passively arranged, multi-deep storage channels and set them down in their correct locations. One of the key benefits of the StoreBiter 500 is its autonomy, which allows it to move fully independently throughout the storage channels, says the company.

The StoreBiter 500 can be combined with an AS/RS crane such as the Cheetah heavy, a Cross Conveyor or a Vertical Conveyor. The shuttle itself is piloted through the warehouse by a PLC and supplied with energy via Supercaps. This facilitates storage channels of arbitrary lengths without complex, interference-prone cables and rope connections. Charge stations are mounted on the carrier vehicle and can be additionally installed in the storage channels if required. With this, the StoreBiter 500 is designed for 24/7 operation as the batteries do not require protracted recharging.

The StoreBiter 500 shuttle system stands out due to the high storage capacity with comparatively low investment and operating costs. The passive storage channels and simple, robust engineering of the shuttle result in low maintenance and servicing costs. The system design enables rational, requirement-orientated IT organisation and inventory monitoring. The warehouse system itself operates in accordance with the Last-in-First-out principle. The StoreBiter 500 is the optimum solution when it comes to space-saving warehouse storage for a large number of pallets. The advantages of the system are even greater if the storage channels can be filled on an unmixed basis.

Forklift Safety Assistance Provider Opens US Subsidiary

Forklift truck safety assistance provider ELOKON has announced the opening of its new American subsidiary. ELOKON Inc. is based in Atlanta and represents the continuation of the international growth strategy for the supplier of assistance systems for industrial vehicles (forklifts, AGVs and Cobots) which is headquarted in Germany and operates subsidaries in Great Britain and Poland. ELOKON currently serves more than 3,000 customers in over 45 countries.

“The opening of our US subsidiary is an important milestone in our plans for international expansion,“ said Alexander Glasmacher, Managing Director of the ELOKON Group. “Having already achieved significant sales in America in 2018, we are now even better placed to meet our local customer requirements with our team here and to further expand our sales activities.“

The new subsidiary will be headed up by Kevin Bradley, who will become Vice President Sales and Operations. He was previously responsible for the subsidiary in Great Britain, from where he also served American customers.

The choice of location at Atlanta was based on a number of factors including good availability of highly trained specialists, internationally renowned universities, a dynamic economy, the world’s busiest passenger airport with daily direct connections to Europe, and a high density of subsidiaries of German SMEs. The ELOKON Inc. office is located in Tucker, GA, 30084, where a current team of ten staff provides front and back office service and support.

The company’s solutions include the multiple award winning driver assistance system ELOshield, collision-avoidance and personnel protection system ELOprotect, which was the FLTA Safety Award winner in 2018, and the smartphone based fleet management system ELOfleet.

Combilift Powered Pallet Truck Picks up FLTA Safety Award

Combilift added another industry award to its tally when its Combi-PPT model won the Safety Category at the UK’s  FLTA Awards for Excellence 2019 in March.

The Combi-PPT is a high performance pedestrian operated powered pallet truck, the first model of which was designed following a very specific request from a Combilift customer wanting to enhance operational safety and material flow in its manufacturing facilities. This proved to be so successful that the Combi-PPT was put into serial production last year and models with capacities from 3,000kg up to 16,000kg are now available.

Its design and features such as AC powered drive, steer and lifting technology enable very large and bulky products to be manoeuvred with ease in confined spaces without the use of a ride-on forklift. Above all, it can also do this whilst ensuring maximum safety when working in areas where other personnel may be present, in busy production plants for example, thanks to Combilift’s, patented multi-position tiller arm. This incorporates tiller and operator offset position with the touch of a button and enables excellent visibility from the side of the truck, also reducing any crush risk to the operator when working in tight spaces. According to the FLTA “the jury was impressed by the PPT’s large capacity and its potential to replace counterbalance trucks, improving safety in pedestrian areas.”

Mark Whyte, Combilift’s R&D manager, accepted the “Archie” trophy from Andrea Maneti of the category sponsor Trelleborg. Combilift’s MD Martin McVicar commented: “We have won a number of awards from the FLTA over the years for innovation, design achievement, ergonomics as well as the unique Winner of Winners Gold Award in 2012. In the 25th year of the awards we are proud to have been recognised for our ongoing commitment to safer materials handing with the introduction of the Combi-PPT into our product range.”
