Mosca Launches Strapper for Lightweight Products on Pallets and Dollies

Mosca’s latest EVOLUTION SoniXs MS-6 KR-ZV strapper is for securing lightweight products on pallets, dollies or pallet cages. In the past, these goods required much larger strapping machines. With a low strap tension of maximum 450 newtons, the EVOLUTION SoniXs MS-6 KR-ZV works perfectly in light operations. The cost-saving model is CE-compliant from the factory without a safety enclosure when used as a stand-alone machine or with non-driven conveyor systems. The machine’s movable strap lance manoeuvres between planks, feet or runners and, together with the side-mounted sealing unit, enables strapping close to the ground. The sealing unit uses Mosca’s proven SoniXs ultrasonic technology to ensure machine availability even at maximum capacity.

As the “little sister” of the successful KZV-111, it not only costs less than the larger model, it is also more efficient thanks to its adaptability to specific applications. Mosca GmbH CEO Timo Mosca explains: “The EVOLUTION SoniXs MS-6 KR-ZV shows how we are able to respond to customer needs by integrating their specific requirements into tailor-made solutions that meet Mosca quality standards.”

One of the key advantages of the EVOLUTION SoniXs MS-6 KR-ZV compared to larger machines is its reduced strap tension of 450 newtons. By limiting the maximum strap tension, the new Mosca machine can be used for stand-alone applications or with non-driven conveyor systems without an additional safety enclosure. This not only makes the machine less expensive to buy. It also eliminates the need for operators to leave the safety zone during strapping and enables them to process packages much faster.

Combilift on Show with Big and Small at transport logistic

If you need to lift, move and store pallets, long loads, containers or oversized products – and you want to do this safely and productively whilst saving space too, then make sure to visit Combilift’s two stands at this year’s transport logistic show. The exhibits in Hall 4 and in the open air area illustrate the extensive range of materials handling solutions that the Irish-based specialist manufacturer has to offer. These include pedestrian stackers, articulated trucks for narrow aisle operation, multidirectional forklifts and straddle carriers and mobile gantries.

Centrepiece on the outdoor stand will be the impressive Combi-SC Straddle Carrier, one of Combilift’s largest products, available with lift capacities of 100 tonnes. A major advantage is its much lighter unladen weight compared to other pieces of heavy handling equipment. This enables operation on poor and semi-rough terrain, avoiding the need for costly investment on ground improvement. Further benefits are low fuel consumption, 3-wheel manoeuvrability and all round operator visibility for models fitted with a driver’s cab (remote control is also an option). Customised to individual requirements, the SC is not just for containers but is ideal for oversized and potentially problematic loads such as steel, concrete, modular buildings and also for the recycling sector.

At the other end of the size spectrum Combilift continues to expand its range of pedestrian operated trucks. The Combi-CS on show is a counterbalance stacker, with capacities from 1,000 kg to 1,500 kg that will work in narrow aisles. It features the unique patented multi-position tiller arm which ensures excellent visibility for the operator and a very safe working environment for other personnel.

Visitors can look forward to live demos of these exhibits as well as the Aisle Master articulated trucks, to see at first hand how Combilift can transform handling and storage procedures for the better. Go to the Open Air Stand: FG 704/2 and Hall B4 Stand 430.

BIFA Warns of Looming Deadline on Customs Training Funding

The British International Freight Association (BIFA) is alerting its members to a looming deadline by which they can apply for customs training funding from the UK Government’s £5 million grant scheme. Opened in December 2018, the fund is part of an £8 million investment to support training and automation in the customs intermediaries sector.

Robert Keen, director general of BIFA, the trade association for UK freight forwarding and logistics companies, warns: “Applicants only have until 31 May 2019 to apply for funding towards training courses that help them to complete customs declarations, or the upgrade of IT systems.

“HMRC would particularly like to encourage applications for the training grants. These are available to intermediaries and traders completing customs declarations or intending to complete customs declarations in the future.”

BIFA says the training grant could be used to support a business that is extending and taking on new staff, or to help train an existing employee to start completing customs declarations for the company. Training can be delivered by an external provider, or an in-house trainer.

It adds that the grant can also be used towards the cost of the new modular customs declarations training course which was launched in March as part of the Government’s wider investment in the sector.

The scheme is intended to help support the extra demand for customs brokerage services associated with the UK’s departure from the EU and Keen adds: “Increased capacity in this sector will be important whatever our future relationship with the EU.”

More information on how businesses can apply, and a link to the online application page are available at https://www.gov.uk

Telematics Provider Masternaut Bought by Michelin

Telematics specialist Masternaut has been bought by Michelin. Masternaut will continue to operate under its own brand as a fully-owned subsidiary within Michelin, and the transaction is expected to close within the next 60 days, according to the company.

Founded in 1996, Masternaut is a fleet telematics service provider, with leading positions in the UK and France. It provides solutions for fleet tracking and optimisation, driver behaviour improvement and digital transformation. With Masternaut technology, it says, customers improve driver safety, save on average £660 per vehicle annually, improve their service processes and reduce CO2 emissions (by over 230,000 tonnes in 2018).

Masternaut is Michelin’s third major acquisition in the fleet telematics industry, with previous investments in Nextraq in North America and Sascar in South America. This acquisition provides Michelin access to Europe’s rapidly-growing telematics market – projected by industry analyst Berg Insight to grow by over 15% p.a. in the next five years.

Florent Menegaux, managing partner of Michelin, said: “Masternaut represents a further step in the expansion of our Services & Solutions business, especially in Europe and for light vehicle fleets.”

Dhruv Parekh (above), CEO of Masternaut, said, “Operating within the Michelin Group accelerates our ability to achieve the vision of a connected world that is safer, cleaner and more productive.”

Olympic Star Backley to Headline Talent in Logistics Conference

The third annual Talent in Logistics conference is promising delegates an incredible line-up of seminars, exhibitors and live competitions for 2019.

The event, which takes place on 27th June at Marshall Arena, Milton Keynes, will give delegates the skills and knowledge to make real improvements to people strategies, employee engagement and talent attraction through expert insight and actionable guidance.

This will be delivered through a series of talks and seminars in three theatres, each with a specialised theme: Attract, Develop and Engage. Delegates to the conference will also gain four hours CPD from The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT).

Speakers include none other than Steve Backley, OBE, the only British athlete to win medals at three consecutive Olympic Games. With a background in sports psychology, Steve will talk about mental preparation and identify the three main attributes which lead to success.

Gwen Carter-Powell, international manager for Investors in People (IIP), will be taking a seminar on defining culture in order to retain talent. There will also be a panel discussion led by Think Logistics on solving the skills gap through youth employment.

Delegates will enjoy a new and improved Info Zone full of networking opportunities and the chance to get face-to-face with industry leading exhibitors including the Institute of Leadership & Management, Woodfines Solicitors and How’s My Driving.

The conference will also see the return of the nail-biting live final of Forklift Operator of the Year, where finalists are put through their paces in a series of interactive challenges, as well as an exciting new competition; LGV Driver of the Year.
