Rhenus Logistics Acquires PSL Group

Leading international forwarder, Rhenus Logistics has acquired European road freight specialists, PSL Group.

With a head office in Maldon, Essex and six additional offices across England, PSL’s locations bring an increase in freight volumes, “facilitating faster growth and providing a unified approach to both businesses”.

PSL Group’s portfolio adds an established Scandinavian service through the SkanTrans PSL brand, high volumes of European mainland distributions and a 24/7 customs clearance operation in Dover. It says this further strengthens the company’s market position at a time of uncertainty around Brexit.

David Williams, managing director of Rhenus Logistics Limited, comments: “There is a unified goal to ensure the acquisition is not only a success for all parties but also to enable Rhenus to further solidify its place within the forwarding sector. The next few months will be a crucial time for both companies as new projects arise and the two teams begin working together.”

John King, managing director of PSL Group, added: “Becoming part of the Rhenus group enables us to present new opportunities and services to our clients. With our joint experience, international contacts and expertise in road freight, there is significant scope for growth.”

White Paper Released: Flexible v. Fixed Warehouse Infrastructure

It might seem like a flight of fancy to some, or too far in the future to think seriously about, but in fact, robots are going into warehouses so fast that the vast majority of leading warehouses will almost certainly integrate robots within five years.

In this white paper, robotic innovator Geek+ will look more closely at:

The competition that stands in the way of robots – namely, fixed infrastructure such as conveyors and automated storage and retrieval systems.

Robots represent the flexible infrastructure model, which offers the opportunity to establish a warehouse without much  – if anything – inside it, except for computer networking.

Which one will win out in the end? Or will they both coexist? Geek+ say we’ll know the answers within five years.

Geek+ will also be available to meet at IMHX in Birmingham later this month.

Read the white paper here to learn more about the global trends in supply chain automation.

Combilift Tiller Arm Picks Up Awards Nod for IMHX

Irish-based forklift innovator Combilift has been named by BITA as one of the finalists in the Industrial Vehicles Category of  Design4Safety Awards, which take place during the IMHX show in the last week of September.

The product which impressed the judging panel is Combilift’s unique, patented multi-position tiller arm which is a feature common to all its pedestrian models. It was designed to ensure maximum safety for the operator and other personnel who may be in the vicinity where the trucks are operating such as busy production plants, whilst enabling productive picking and placing of products in narrow aisles.

It can be turned to the left or right of the truck and enables push button rotation of the rear wheel parallel to the chassis and back again. It allows the operator to remain in the safest possible position when working in narrow aisles – at the side of the truck rather than at the rear. This reduces the risk of the operator being crushed or trapped between the truck and racking. The sight line is not impeded by having to look through the mast, guaranteeing full visibility of the load, the forks and the surroundings, for greater awareness and therefore safety. The tiller arm also incorporates a monitor which clearly displays the rear wheel position at all times.

Models incorporating the multi-position tiller arm will of course be on display at IMHX on one of Combilift’s four stands, based around stand number L125 in Hall 18. These include the Combi-WR reach stacker and its multidirectional counterpart the Combi-WR4, the Combi-CS range of counterbalance stackers and the Combi-PPT powered pallet truck, which won the Safety Category of this year’s FLTA awards.
