Tailor-Made Automated Packaging for the Ecommerce Age

Tailor-made, efficient and sustainable: Packsize will present its automated solutions for e-commerce at the LogiMAT trade fair in Stuttgart from 10 to 12 March at Stand B61 in Hall 4.  Precision-fit boxes are created individually for each shipment, and bring numerous advantages from picking through to shipping, says the German-based firm.Packaging as a Service

Packaging lines for e-commerce and fulfilment are designed and implemented individually, working in partnership with the operators. A wide range of options for automated carton cutting, -folding, -filling and -sealing can be efficiently integrated.  “We offer customised complete processes that make it possible for each order to be packed in a ready-to-ship box,” explains Martin Jönsson, Vice President of Enterprise Sales Europe at Packsize.

Packsize solutions are based on a high level of automation. The fully automatic X7 packaging line, for example, produces up to 1,200 differently sized ready-to-ship packages per hour. Labour intensive operations in the packaging process are significantly reduced.

By introducing On Demand Packaging processes, e-commerce and related fulfilment companies can also reduce their ecological footprint. Using right-sized boxes significantly reduces both the package volume and the amount of material used. Packsize customers also make savings when it comes to handling and logistics, since the tailor-made packages take up less space. And the amount of filling material used is also reduced.

Packsize will be exhibiting at the LogiMAT trade fair in Stuttgart from 10 to 12 March at Stand B61 in Hall 4.

Registration for IntraMag Poland Now Open

International Intralogistics, Warehousing and Supply Chain Exhibition – IntraMag Poland is a new business event dedicated to internal logistics, supply chain and warehouse management. People looking for new solutions to facilitate work in warehouse, distribution and logistics centers will be able to get acquainted with new products, software or industrial equipment. Participation in the event is also a chance to establish new business relationships and participate in thematic conferences.

The Polish Association of Warehouse Technology became the substantive partner of the fair, which will co-create with the organizer the lecturer part, including subject of ADR or safety in the warehouse. The Association focuses in its activities on promoting innovation and good practices and implementing an education and training mission.

The Institutional Patron – the Office of Technical Inspection – is inseparably connected with the storage zone, it promotes the idea of technical safety and also will support the conference part of the event.

The group of exhibitors is still growing, participation in the event has been confirmed by the following companies: Lumar Poland, Inpost, Lenze, Suret, Fronius, Octant, Avery Denisson, ISP, Niko Alex, Avilda, Safety Padlock, CarGo, Piab, Intra.se, Dancop. Each exhibiting company will present its product range – from software related to warehouse processes, to forklifts, containers, scanners and more.

Warsaw Pack and FoodTech Expo will take place at the same time, and one registration allows you to visit all three events. The events will take place 03-05 March 2020 at Ptak Warsaw Expo in Nadarzyn near Warsaw.

Oversized Lid Protects Return Packaging in Transit

Goplasticpallets.com has launched a new XL Lid especially designed to protect fabric dunnage and special system packaging on return journeys.

Designed by CABKA_IPS, the new CabCube 1210 XL Lid was developed to be compatible with the
CabCube 1210 9F 2.0 foldable sleeve pack, particularly for those customers using large volumes of inner packaging and fabric dunnage.

Where the original CabCube cover was designed to slot within the perimeter of the pallet base, the new CabCube 1210 XL Lid protrudes over the edge. As a result, when used with a short, fixed collar, it safely stores both the pallet sleeve and fabric dunnage within, whilst taking up minimal space in transit.

So, how does it work in practice?

Take for example an automotive manufacturer who is looking to move steering wheels in bulk from its factory to the assembly line. To protect the steering wheels in transit, they’ll be placed in fabric dividers, which are fixed inside the CabCube 1210 sleeve pack in two neat rows – so approximately 26 steering wheels in total. A shorter collar is fitted inside the wide groove around the perimeter of the pallet sleeve, which is a feature of the pressure injected pallet base. The CabCube 1210 XL Lid would then be securely positioned on top of the pallet sleeve ready for shipment.

At the assembly line, the steering wheels would be removed, leaving the foldable pallet sleeve with the now empty fitted fabric dunnage inside and the short, fixed collar, which would all need to be returned to the factory.

The short, fixed collar would be located on the outer edge of the pallet sleeve, which would then fold inside the collar and slot into the pallet recess to secure it in place. Any fabric dunnage or other inner packaging would then be folded down and loaded on top, to allow the CabCube 1210 XL lid to fit securely over the short, fixed collar for ultimate protection.

The CabCube 1210 XL Lid weighs just over 10kg and measures 1200mm (L) x 1000mm (W) with external dimensions of 1208mm (L) x 1008mm (W).

NexSys Battery Range Now Covers All Materials Handling Vehicle Applications

Thin Plate Pure Lead (TPPL) battery technology from EnerSys, long-established in providing highly flexible, maintenance-free operation for materials handling vehicles, is now available in two forms, says the company.

First is the NexSys Core battery (available only in EMEA markets), a high-performance alternative to traditional lead-acid batteries. “Then, for users seeking even more enhanced capabilities, outstanding cycling performance in Partial State of Charge (PSoC) operations and increased cycle life, there is the new NexSys Pure battery,” says EnerSys. Comprising TPPL technology with the addition of carbon in the active material formulation, the NexSys Pure battery is claimed to be powerful enough to offer a compelling alternative to lithium-ion (Li-ion) in many applications.

“With these two NexSys batteries, we can meet the needs of all electric materials handling vehicle users,” comments Sorelle Metiendjo Tiam, Advanced Technologies Product Manager EMEA at EnerSys. Tiam continued: “Those that would have previously deployed traditional lead-acid batteries can benefit from the superior performance of the NexSys Core battery; for them, this battery becomes the standard solution. Similarly, the NexSys Pure battery offers an attractive lower price alternative to lithium-ion for users seeking the highest level of performance.”

The NexSys battery family offers users a full spectrum of choice. The NexSys Core battery is currently optimised to achieve 100% energy throughput for low to medium-duty operations. In contrast, the NexSys Pure battery delivers up to 160 per cent energy throughput per day. This means the NexSys family offers true flexibility for all material handling applications.

The energy content of NexSys batteries is up to 10% more than flooded batteries and up to 20% more than gel batteries. This is possible as one tubular plate is equivalent to three TPPL plates. Therefore, both the NexSys Core and Pure battery have three times more plates than flooded and gel batteries of the same volume. TPPL plate thickness down to 0,8mm allows this density.

Unlike conventional lead-acid solutions, the NexSys Core battery has fast charge capability. It can be fully charged in 5 hours. Moreover, it is possible to use short break times to opportunity charge the NexSys Core battery, even without reaching full state of charge. This allows the user to complete a higher number of cycles (up to 1500 cycles at 60% DOD), and the cycle life increases exponentially at lower DoD levels.

Opportunity charges allow users to complete daily missions, which may overtake the nominal capacity of the battery, and therefore provide flexibility in truck operation with up to 100 per cent energy throughput per day. A truck can accordingly complete an entire shift, possibly longer, without needing removal from service for a battery change or recharge.
