Interroll (Suzhou) Co. Ltd. is to close its existing Suzhou factory in 2022 and open a new manufacturing location within the local area. A total of CNY 181 million (CHF 25 million) will be invested in the new and fully owned facilities. The new setup will extend Interroll’s production capacity and strengthen its readiness for future growth in the Asia Pacific region.

The Swiss-based conveyor motor specialist says that growth markets there—especially in China, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region, Korea, and Australia—show a good demand for Interroll products and provide significant potential for growth in the long term. Moreover, an increase in the base of installed material handling systems at customers is expected to provide additional service opportunities within the region. In 2019, about half of the output of Interroll Suzhou was delivered to destinations outside of the People’s Republic of China, with large-scale projects for the Korean e-commerce sector, as an example. Production at the new factory is scheduled to start in early 2022.

Dachser Expands China Charter Flight Rotation

Dachser Air & Sea Logistics is starting the next wave of its charter flight rotation service to China and back. The charter route has initially been scheduled to operate from mid-March to the end of the month.

Dachser will charter 747s and integrate them into the rotation of flights from Frankfurt to Shanghai and vice versa. In this way, Dachser offers its customers an intelligent solution for transport needs in transpacific trade and is responding to the current market situation with flexible solutions.

The artificial intelligence integrated into the vehicle ensures that both travel path and speed are adapted to the respective conditions. In addition, the operator can manually adjust the picking distance to the rack and also determine at which of a maximum of four pallet positions the vehicle should stop.

No WiFi is required to operate these vehicles and no installation effort is required to install the system, such as programming routes or adapting the warehouse environment.

The OPX iGo neo interacts reliably with the operator thanks to modern sensor technology of the latest generation and refined communication technology. Before starting work, the operator connects via radio a remote control to the vehicle, which he then only needs to carry with him and is tracked by two systems at the same time – via the hybrid tracking system. This allows the operator to concentrate fully on his work, which minimises picking errors and increases productivity. The hybrid tracking system, which is unique on the market, combines the precision and performance of motion tracking with stable location via radio. A pedestrian protection system (PPS) and motion tracking sensors detect all dynamic and static objects within a radius of up to 15 m and in consequence enable a safe situational reaction to obstacles. The vehicle is thus able to drive around them by itself. In addition, the system automatically detects cross-aisles and aisle ends and gently slows the vehicle down when approaching them. The OPX iGo neo only passes such intersections after confirmation from the operator. Additional protection is provided by an optional 3D front camera, which reliably detects obstacles over the entire height of the vehicle. LED signal units ensure excellent visibility of the autonomous vehicle and also indicate which mode it is in or which shelf line it is currently following.

PSI Logistics Teams Up with Optimiser agiplan

PSI Logistics and Mülheim-based consulting and planning company agiplan have signed a partnership deal. The two  are set to link the strengths of PSIglobal logistics software with agiplan’s skills in optimising  production and networks.

PSIglobal is a specialised software solution to manage complex logistical networks. It is applied as a strategic tool for the analysis, planning and optimization of new or existing networks. The system also supports companies in identifying inefficiencies and improving logistic processes.

Witron to Provider 40% Output Boost for Belgium Food Retailer De Leeuw

De Leeuw, a leading food retailer in Belgium, is expanding its automated flow-through fresh food logistics centre in Zellik (Distribution Center B3) together with the general contractor Witron Logistik + Informatik GmbH. Since the end of 2013, the facility has been supplying more than 800 stores with a range of 900+ different fresh and ultra-fresh products at +2 degrees Celsius temperature zones. Once the expansion is ready for operation, scheduled for mid-2022,  output on peak days will increase by more than 40%. The additionally awarded expansion shows that Delhaize is convinced of the cost-efficiency, flexibility, ergonomics, and availability of the solution.

The current expansion was part of the original logistics concept. Three additional modules will be implemented into the existing Witron ATS solution (Automated Tote System) during ongoing operation. These include 100,000 additional tote locations (in total 271,000), 12 stacker cranes (in total 32), 24 tote stackers / destackers (in total 71), as well as 12 sequence buffers, 8 vertical lifting devices, 4 transfer cars, 2 dolly loading stations, and stretch-wrapping and labelling machines.

The full tote handling in the entire material flow has been significantly simplified and accelerated with the ATS system. A major benefit of the technology lies in the fact that the EPS-totes of different sizes commonly used in the fresh area can be stored and picked fully automatically, in a store-friendly manner, and stacked onto dispatch dollies with a limited need for personnel.
