Animal Attraction in Shipping & Transport

As part of a long-standing relationship between the two companies going back many years, LV Shipping & Transport has recently taken delivery of 16 new trailers from TIP Trailer Services, comprising a mixture of Dennison PSK flats, and extending flats, as well as four new SDC curtainsided trailers. The four specialist SDC curtainsided trailers are working within the company’s UPN pallet network operation, and include three double deck trailers as well as one standard 13.2m trailer that has a Dhollandia tuckaway tail lift specified.

These trailers are working on high-quality palletised freight distribution within the UK network, UPN, which currently has over 90 members covering the whole of the UK, and European partners providing coverage through 26 countries. Naturally, these new SDC curtainsided trailers feature the impressive UPN animal kingdom branding on the rear doors that is featured across all the UPN marketing activity, and the trailers are being used by LV Shipping mainly on trunking operations to UPN’s central hub in Lichfield, as well as on local deliveries within the north-east.

The 12 new Dennison flat trailers within the LV fleet are working within the oil, gas, steel market for existing customers all over the UK. All 16 of the new TIP supplied trailers are replacing existing trailers within the LV fleet in the UK, and have been taken on a five-year deal with TIP Trailer Services, that includes full repair and maintenance. Currently, LV Shipping run 23 tractor units, various sized rigid trucks and 60 assorted trailers, consisting of a mixture of flats, extended flats and skeletal trailers, as well as curtainsiders with sliding roofs and double deck trailers. LV Shipping & Transport are deeply rooted in North East with its main UK flagship facility based in Middlesbrough. “The relationship between LV and TIP has been a long-term success story with both companies working together to provide a range of trailers that meet all their varied operational demands. It is really pleasing to be working with such a professional organisation for so long,” said Mike Furnival, managing director, TIP Trailer Services UK & I.

This new device is designed to handle plenty of applications and to last several shifts for uninterrupted work activities. If users run out of power, they can simply take a newly charged 3,800 mAh Li-on battery from the docking station, and quickly swap it out for another 12 hours of seamless work. This operation is made in seconds with the Memor K’s easy-to-replace battery design.

The Memor K simplifies the capture of any data for every scanned item in many ways. It is ergonomically designed, with a large 4-inch touchscreen display and a backlit soft rubber keypad. This keypad provides comfortable, tactile feedback and ensures fast and correct typing even in the darkest conditions, reducing the chance of error for the user. The device also comes with two comfortable side scan buttons to allow the scanning of items using only the thumb. In addition, to accelerate and ease repetitive actions, any desired function can be assigned to two other programmable side buttons.

The Memor K combines its ultra-thin design with a highly rugged assembly. It can sustain repeated drops up to 1.2 m / 4 ft onto concrete, and its IP54 rating guarantees high protection from dust and water. Users have access to fast download and upload connections through powerful Wi-Fi communications (includes the AC standard), while the USB-C assures rapid data transfer and high charging speeds.

New Web Tool to help Fleet Owners Double their Loads

Digital road freight platform, Ontruck has rolled out a new free web tool to help fleet managers increase volumes of loads and improve their overall business ratio in one, easy-to-use solution. A pilot of the tool conducted with 15 fleets has shown that each fleet successfully doubled their assigned loads per week when compared to other companies that did not use the new tool.

The fleet app is a web version of the existing carrier app which Ontruck launched in 2016. The latest tool has been designed with the more complex needs of fleet managers in mind, providing a real-time visual overview of the fleet including vehicle locations and loads, delivery tracking, estimated costs and live notifications of delays. With one simple dashboard, managers can monitor their entire fleet without needing to access multiple devices and logins.

The solution helps managers to fully optimise the efficiency of their fleets, ultimately increasing the volume of loads handled and enabling them to effectively scale their business.

“Since the beginning, our app has helped individual carriers to fully optimise each aspect of their business, offering them loads based on their availability and location and leveraging real-time GPS data to help them to reduce empty kilometres and increase their daily capacity”  explains Javier Escribano, Chief Product Officer at Ontruck., “Now, with this web tool, we want to make each of these advantages available to our fleet managers to help them work with maximum efficiency and ease while increasing their volumes of loads and business ratio”.

Trailer Group has new Hire

Peter Andries joins the ICTS Group as Country Manager for Belgium. After obtaining his degree in Applied Sciences in Leuven, Andries, 42 years old, gained extensive leasing experience at De Lage Landen (Rabo Bank) and financial knowledge at GE Capital (General Electric). He is well-equipped to lead ICTS through the current challenges in leasing, rental and financial services as Country Manager for Belgium. He will work closely with Joop Roijakkers, who’s in charge of the rental activities of the ICTS Group.

The young ICTS fleet consists of 2500+ trailers, of which 90% are rented on a continuous basis with 60% long-term rental and 40% short-term rental. This business concept allows optimal work processes. With a fleet of 2500 trailers, spread across different countries, ICTS aims to achieve a 90% optimum balance between occupancy and availability. If the capacity utilisation were to be 100%, there would be no free availability of the fleet for the customer and ICTS would not be able to achieve the service level desired. Therefore, 10% of the trailer fleet is reserved as a service for additional short-term rental when the market improves or in the event of a peak moment of existing or new customers.

When ICTS’ available fleet does not meet the demand of a customer, ICTS is able to respond quickly and maintain its capacity throughout Europe through close cooperation with several renowned trailer manufacturers. In recent years, this flexible approach has led to a strong growth and diversification of ICTS Group’s trailer park. Both new and existing customers will receive optimal service. Thanks to the sale of used trailers and the continuous renewal of the fleet, the number of trailers is growing steadily and the average age is reduced. The ICTS concept of rental is simple and clear. Just answer some questions about the use of trailers in your company and service staff will advise the best solution for the best performance.

Access Control System Protects Users by Reducing Bacterial Contamination

In the new normal, we’re all going to have to get used to doing things differently and hygiene is something that will play a greater part in all our lives. That’s why SALTO incorporates BioCote the market-leading antimicrobial technology in our electronic smart lock range.

Whatever type of logistics, warehouse or distribution centre building you’re managing, you will have a greater or lesser number of doors and that means each person that uses the door transfers the bacteria on their hands to the door handle every time they go through it. However, the addition of BioCote’s antimicrobial technology helps reduce microbes on SALTO door handles and improves hygiene creating a cleaner, more hygienic environment for all users, staff, visitors etc.

The more hygienic the handle, the less chance of cross-contamination. This helps to reduce the spread of microbes as they are not then transferred from door to door and surface to surface. That’s why SALTO includes BioCote in our range of standalone wire free electronic lock products to contribute to customers existing cleaning and hygiene regimes. And now, more than ever, this technology is proving its worth.

BioCote has been successfully tested against a feline strain of coronavirus, showing a reduction of 90% in two hours, which is a positive indicator of the antiviral properties of the technology. Previous testing has revealed that BioCote delivers 99.9 percent, 24/7 protection against an array of microbes including Influenza A H1N1, E.coli, Salmonella, and antibiotic-resistant CRE, VRE, and MRSA.

The invisible silver-ion technology is integrated with the handle during the manufacturing process – so not only will our access control give you complete control over who can access what, when and where – you can also ensure staff are protected while doing so. BioCote cannot be wiped off or worn away, enhancing hygiene management and reducing the possibility of cross-contamination, and the finish is long-lasting and maintains its antimicrobial performance over the expected lifetime of the SALTO electronic lock products.
