Nine Reachstackers Supplied to German Army

Hyster Europe has started the delivery of nine Hyster® ReachStackers for the German Armed Forces to BwFuhrparkService GmbH. The RS46-33CH container handlers ordered by BwFuhrparkService will be used in the Armed Forces’ various materials handling centres throughout Germany.

The new ReachStackers will be used for the handling and storage of empty containers in depots, as well as handling full containers. The containers are typically loaded with various different equipment, from tent accommodation and tools, to spare parts. Even small vehicles can be stored in the containers and prepared for transport. Containers are then transported from the depot by rail or truck to a wide variety of areas and locations in Germany, and abroad.

Two of the ReachStackers are equipped with a special spreader. The spreader has so-called “overheight” legs which make it possible to transport containers that have an open top from which bulky objects may protrude.

The ReachStackers have a load capacity of 46 tonnes and the capability to stack up to five containers high in the first row. The handling height in the second row is four 9’6″ or five 8’6″ containers, and in the third row the machines can stack three 9’6″ or four 8’6″ containers. The ReachStackers are equipped with the proven Cummins QSL 9 engines with 8.9 litre displacement and the DANA S.O.H. TE 32 transmission.

The oil-bath multiple-disc brakes on the drive axle are equipped with a separate cooling circuit and are practically maintenance-free. In addition, the drive axle has excellent lateral stability and a long service life thanks to robust reduction ratios and gear wheels. To increase fuel efficiency, the container handlers are equipped with cooling on demand as well as load-sensing hydraulics and engine idle speed control.

After a comprehensive selection process, BwFuhrparkService GmbH specifically chose the Hyster® ReachStackers because they are particularly robust and ready for use at any time,” says Oliver Hoffmann, Territory Manager at Hyster Europe.

First Autonomous Electric Refrigeration System

Carrier Transicold has reaffirmed its commitment to reducing emissions, improving sustainability and increasing efficiency across the refrigerated transport sector with the launch of the first fully autonomous, all-electric engineless refrigerated trailer system, the Vector® eCoolTM: Carrier Transicold is a part of Carrier Global Corporation, a leading global provider of innovative heating, ventilating and air conditioning, refrigeration, fire, security and building automation technologies.

“We believe the Vector eCool represents the future of refrigerated trailer technology,” said Victor Calvo, president, Carrier Transicold International Truck & Trailer. “It’s one of the most exciting new products we have ever brought to market. The launch follows years of research and development, including extensive real-world testing with prototypes operating in customer fleets.”

Suitable for operation with the engineless versions of Carrier Transicold’s Vector HE 19 and Vector 1550 E, the Vector eCool combines the company’s E-Drive™ all-electric technology with a new cutting-edge energy recovery and storage system. This converts kinetic energy generated by the trailer into electricity, which is then stored in a battery pack to power the refrigeration unit. This loop creates a fully autonomous system that produces no direct carbon dioxide (CO2) or particulate emissions.

When the refrigeration unit is operating on battery power, Carrier Transicold’s energy management system will automatically switch on when the charge reaches a certain level and condition, initiating the generator to recharge the battery to ensure full refrigeration capacity. The eCool system can also be plugged into the electrical grid when the trailer is parked and will fully charge in under four hours. On the road, the battery pack is recharged using power generated by the axles and the kinetic energy created under braking.

When used with Carrier Transicold’s flagship Vector HE 19 unit, the Vector eCool can provide even further reductions in energy consumption. Even with the system’s axle generator and battery pack fitted, it is still significantly lighter than a standard diesel unit with a full tank of fuel. The Vector eCool is also PIEK-compliant, meaning when used with the City versions of the Vector HE 19 and Vector 1550 E, operating noise is below 60 dB(A). Combined with its emissions performance, the Vector eCool provides the ultimate solution to ever-tightening inner-city and urban regulations.

Efficient Ship Loading

A loading and unloading system in a port must be able to handle ships quickly – with minimal dust emissions and without the loss of bulk goods. Beumer Group provides efficient systems for this purpose, which take into account both different ship sizes as well as the space available at the port. The modular design of the Beumer Group systems makes it possible to deliver a precisely tailored solution for every requirement.

The right loading technology is crucial for efficient and safe delivery of products to the customers. Beumer Group offers sophisticated solutions for loading and unloading trucks, railway wagons – and ships. The modular design of the Beumer systems allows customised solutions for every application. The system provider offers ship loading technology, including quadrant type ship loaders, rail-mounted ship loaders with a luffing and swivelling boom, as well as simple stationary loading towers. All ship loader types can of course be equipped with telescopic chutes.

Coarse bulk materials, such as clinker or lumpy ores, are loaded into bulk carriers efficiently and dust-free with belt conveying systems and a vertical telescopic tube. The loading of powdered goods is handled by fully enclosed loading machines. An emission-free operation is ensured at all times, helping protect the environment. Beumer Group has for example installed a ship loader at one of the largest manufacturing plants of urea in Malaysia. This ship loader receives bulk material from belt conveyors and loads ships with up to 1,000 tons of material per hour. The swivel-mounted ship loader runs on rails with a telescopic chute and a throw-off belt conveyor to ensure effective and flexible loading.
