Körber Unveils Capabilities to Elevate Warehouse Operations

Körber announced today the launch of three solutions set to augment and elevate warehouse operations. With a focus on innovation beyond Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), these products address common productivity and workflow pain points across the supply chain, unlocking new capabilities and offering enhanced functionalities.

Supply chain companies face increasing challenges, necessitating the addition of software solutions to extend WMS capabilities. Körber’s latest developments provide a holistic approach to supply chain execution, ensuring end-to-end visibility, scalability and flexibility.

With 82% of workers motivated by recognition, Kӧrber’s Gamification boosts productivity by encouraging worker engagement and introducing healthy competition. Management sets targets and milestones to encourage users to progress through the experience, as they collaborate as a team and accomplish tasks. This solution redefines worker engagement, emphasizing efficiency, productivity and employee satisfaction.

Sean Elliott, CTO and acting CEO Software, Körber Business Area Supply Chain, told us, “Whether it’s revolutionizing inventory placement with Slotting.IQ, boosting workforce engagement through Gamification, or combining automation with human workflows with UCS, Körber continues to drive warehouse innovation. Gamification, Slotting.IQ and Unified Control Systems increase efficiencies in the warehouse.”

Körber’s Slotting.IQ allows warehouses to harness management of complex inventories. Dynamic slotting algorithms optimize inventory placements, improving order-picking efficiency and accelerating order processing. By integrating with the WMS, re-slotting strategies can be implemented seamlessly and enhance overall operational productivity. Slotting.IQ’s automated approach also saves valuable time and resources compared to traditional, manual slotting methods.

Körber’s Unified Control System (UCS) provides a single point of management and control for fulfillment processes driven by warehouse staff, AMR and other automation technologies. It seamlessly orchestrates automated and manual workflows, enabling faster order processing and improving throughput. UCS integrates with the WMS and other warehouse technologies, to enable operational flexibility, streamline workflows and boost productivity.

“Körber’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of warehouse technology is reflected in these solutions,” said Elliott.

ASDA Introduces Moving Deck Trailers

ASDA, a leading UK supermarket, is midway through welcoming to its fleet an initial order of 167 new vehicles manufactured by Tiger Trailers, comprised of 147 tri-axle box van moving deck double deck trailers for UK operation, and 20 for the retailer’s Northern Ireland ferry-use operations.

Tiger’s new trailer solution for Asda provides up to a 44-pallet carrying capacity, and incorporates a ¾ length moving deck for versatility, powered by the Cheshire manufacturer’s in-house, 4-ram hydraulic system. The three vibrant livery variations and memorable slogans make the new fleet assets an eye-catching sight on the road.

Peter Hey, Asda’s fleet procurement manager, says: “We have collaborated with the Tiger team individuals in previous companies, but this order is the first time that we have worked with them directly at Tiger. Engagement with the Tiger team was excellent from the outset, including a number of visitors to their factory, and we are extremely happy with the trailers that they have produced. Tiger’s support has been fantastic throughout.”

Moving Deck Trailers

Tiger Trailers is known for manufacturing bespoke articulated trailers and rigid bodywork to meet its end users’ unique requirements, and Asda’s new double deck trailers have been designed for transporting both cages and UK pallets. Safety for its people and others is paramount for the supermarket, as evidenced by the fitment of a large number of warning and information labels to its trailers, along with cycle safety notices. A ferry trestle support is built into the neck area for Asda’s RoRo operations, air suspension and a roll stability programme enhance cargo integrity, and the controls for the moving deck are positioned to enable operation from both ground level and from store loading bays.

Darren Holland, Tiger Trailers’ Sales Director, comments: “Working with Peter and the Asda team has been a great experience. From the initial on-site meetings to view their operations to sharing the 3D model of their precise trailer at the factory and finally presenting the trailer in our showroom to the Asda team we are really happy with the final product. These trailers will be servicing the Asda ambient operation, and we look forward to working with the Asda team in the future.”

A significant proportion of Asda’s 167 new Tiger-built double deck trailers can already be seen in service on the road, primarily operating from the supermarket’s ambient distribution centres that are situated throughout the UK, along with its Irish Sea Carriers routes.
