Ultra-cold Fruit Storage Efficiency Boost

AR Racking, a global supplier of industrial storage systems, has strengthened its position with the recent renovation and expansion of the drive-in racking system for FruitMasters, one of the largest fresh fruit operators in the Netherlands. Thanks to the expertise and support of Begra, AR Racking’s official distributor in the region, the capacity and efficiency of more than 300 ULO cold storage rooms have been improved, preserving fruit from over 400 local producers.

In an environment with constant temperatures between 0 and 5 degrees Celsius, ultra-cold preservation of fruits such as Kanzi apples and Migo pears requires a precise and reliable storage system. AR Racking has applied all its engineering and technology expertise to ensure each installation meets the highest standards of durability and ease of maintenance, while also guaranteeing full compatibility with FruitMasters’ existing systems.

The partnership between Begra and FruitMasters is well established. During annual inspections, damage was detected in old racks with hard-to-find spare parts, prompting the decision to renew with AR Racking solutions, recognized for their quality and immediate availability of components. This feature allows for rapid replacement of any damaged parts, extending the lifespan of the installations and reducing costs.

“It is essential that the new racks are installed according to our specifications and compatible with the rest of the system. Thanks to the flexibility and robustness of the AR Racking solutions installed by Begra, we can operate with complete peace of mind and ensure the continuity of our operations,” says Dirk Jan Brommersma, Shipping Manager at FruitMasters.

Close collaboration with Begra was key to the project’s success, enabling the new racks to be installed according to FruitMasters’ technical requirements and ensuring a quick response to any support or parts replacement needs. For FruitMasters, this investment means being ready for the future, with robust and flexible systems that preserve product quality and freshness while optimizing energy efficiency and reducing operating costs.

High-rise Pallet Racking for Food Warehouse

Facing the challenge of rapid growth and the need to relocate its operations, Asco Foods, a UK importer and wholesale supplier of South East Asian ambient and frozen foods, entrusted a comprehensive storage solution to support their new logistics platform. The project, delivered by STS Storage Systems with technical support from AR Racking, has equipped the new Thame warehouse with capacity for over 5,500 pallet positions, maximising space usage and boosting operational efficiency.

Asco Foods had outgrown its previous facility, prompting not only a move but the need for a scalable solution that would maintain service levels and minimise downtime. The new distribution centre, covering over 51,000 ft², required a strategic storage design to accommodate growing volumes and a diverse product range, many of which require temperature-controlled environments.

“Our growth meant we needed to act quickly but strategically. The storage solution implemented has enabled us to relocate seamlessly while improving inventory management and stock visibility, making the most of every cubic metre of the new warehouse,” said Sunny Chadha from Asco Foods.

The system selected was a high-rise Pallet Racking installation (11,500 mm) covering both ambient and chilled areas. The flexibility of the design, adapted to the pallet type used (1000 x 1200 mm), was crucial to meeting tight project deadlines, with the customer eager to start operations quickly to avoid additional rental costs.

The project was completed in two phases: the first in January and finalised in May, with all timings strictly adhered to. Close coordination between AR Racking and its official distributor, STS Storage Systems, ensured a smooth and efficient execution.

“At AR Racking, we applied our structural design expertise to tailor the system to the customer’s technical and scheduling requirements. The close collaboration with STS’s engineering and installation team was key to delivering a robust and scalable solution,” said Gonzalo Crovetto, Project Manager at AR Racking.

Richard Tyrell, Project Lead at STS Storage Systems, added: “The success of this project came down to fully understanding Asco Foods’ challenges and translating them into a flexible, efficient, and high-quality solution. Working with AR Racking gave us the confidence to meet every commitment to the customer.”

With this new infrastructure in place, Asco Foods has strengthened its logistics capacity and is now well positioned to support its continued expansion in the UK market and beyond. A solution designed for today, with a clear vision for the future.

Galvanised Clad Rack High-Bay Warehouse

Renova, a European consumer products brand in the tissue paper products segment, has automated its intralogistics operations with the opening of a new clad rack high-bay warehouse in Torres Novas, Portugal, where its head office is based too. The manufacture, design, calculation and installation of the structure was the responsibility of the storage solutions specialist AR Racking, who also carried out the project management.

“The internationalisation of our activity and presence of the Renova brand in foreign markets requires us to streamline and improve the competitiveness of our operations: faster and more precise to achieve more volume,” said Luis Saramago, Marketing Director at Renova. “We knew that AR Racking’s experience in projects of this scale would offer us the service, quality and deadline completion guarantee, hence our decision to work with them”, he added.

Clad rack warehouses

The clad-rack structure, whose particularity is that the racking supports the entire building, is completely galvanised and, therefore, extremely resistant to corrosion and extreme environmental conditions. The warehouse occupies an area of 6,532 m² and is 34 m above floor level. The racking has a storage capacity for 27,360 europallets, which will be loaded and unloaded by double-deep stacker cranes.

AR Racking brings high-quality standards in its industrial racking and structures, which are the result of its continuous engineering development activity and knowledge of the raw materials with which it works. In this case, the structure has been designed with earthquake-resistant calculation, for greater warehouse and customer safety.

Regarding the solution installed for Renova, “automation and exploitation of space in height will give Renova a far more agile operating flow, with more capacity for more products and greater control of references”, explained Bernardo Sopeña, International Key Account Manager at AR Racking. Clad rack warehouses provide high load density resulting in significant savings due to lower investment.
