Smart e-performance Forklift

Clark is presenting the new S-Series Electric to the public for the first time at LogiMAT in Stuttgart. With the SE25-35 electric four-wheel forklift trucks with load capacities of 2.5 to 3.5 tonnes, Clark Europe is launching the first generation of electric forklift trucks that, like their IC engine counterparts, are characterised by the attributes Smart, Strong and Safe.

With their sporty performance, high safety standards and excellent ergonomics, the SE25-35 electric counterbalance trucks keep logistics processes moving, as required by industry, distribution and the food, chemical and pharmaceutical industries, without causing harmful emissions. The electric forklift trucks are designed for high handling performance with low operating costs over their entire life cycle, making them another highly efficient and environmentally friendly alternative to Clark’s IC engine-powered forklift trucks.

Smart – Flexible battery solution with reliable performance

With its advanced smart display with integrated reversing camera, active safety systems and extensive additional equipment, the SE25-35 series is ideal for intensive indoor and outdoor use. A particular highlight are the new lifting masts, which offer excellent mast visibility thanks to the double primary cylinders. In addition to a service-friendly and robust design, many clever ideas for improving operation and ergonomics have been incorporated into the design of the forklift trucks, such as the intuitive direction change integrated into the hydraulic levers or mini levers and the electric parking brake, which prevents the vehicle from unintentionally accelerating or rolling backwards.
Another highlight: operators have the option of changing the vehicle’s energy source and adapting the software accordingly without any major additional effort if the application requirements change. The operator can operate the forklift truck with the classic lead-acid battery or, if required, switch to the high-performance Clark lithium-ion technology, which is particularly effective in multi-shift applications. Thanks to this smart battery solution, the electric forklift trucks are predestined for almost all applications.

Strong – electric power for peak performance

The models in the SE25-35 series are equipped with two low-noise AC traction motors, each with 9.0 kW and 80-volt three-phase AC technology, which enable rapid acceleration and high thrust. The wear-free, powerful AC motors reach a top speed of up to 19 and 20 km/h respectively. Three individually programmable driving modes are available for energy-efficient utilisation of the truck. Wear-free regenerative braking with the engine brake and automatic speed reduction when cornering can also be set as required. Safe use on sloping terrain or ramps is guaranteed by the automatically engaging electric parking brake. This prevents the truck from unintentionally accelerating or rolling backwards and ensures that the operator always has the vehicle under control.

As you would expect from Clark, the S-Series Electric is also designed according to the Built to Last concept. This requires a solid construction with high-quality and durable components: In the S-Series Electric, this includes wet, maintenance-free multi-disc brakes, a durable and electronically protected gearbox, a stable, vibration-free steering axle, tried and tested lift masts from our own production with 6-roller fork carriage, a solid steering axle and the fully welded frames that are standard at Clark.

The maintenance-free multi-disc brakes with oil cooling, for example, also prove their worth on wet or dusty surfaces thanks to their powerful braking effect. The long maintenance intervals and low operating and maintenance costs should also be emphasised. In the event of maintenance, all relevant components are easily accessible for the service technician, minimising downtimes.

Safe – Ergonomic driver’s workplace guarantees intuitive and safe operation

The S-Series Electric has a spacious and ergonomic driver’s workplace, which provides the operator with generous leg and headroom as well as numerous storage options for documents, drinks, and mobile phones. To meet individual requirements, Clark offers various adjustable comfort seats with air or mechanical suspension. The tilt of the steering column can be adjusted to suit the operator. The pedals are automotive-compliant. The operator has an excellent forward view of the forks and the load. This is ensured by the generous viewing window and the nested mast profiles. These increase safety when travelling straight ahead and when storing and retrieving loads. In triplex masts, the free lift cylinders are designed as double primary cylinders, which also provide the best forward visibility. The high-contrast, splash-proof 5-inch colour display provides information on all important vehicle parameters, such as travel speed, load weight and operating time until the next service. Safety and warning messages are displayed in 24 languages. When using a reversing camera, the image is transmitted to the colour display so that the operator has a good overview of the activities on his route when reversing.

The vehicle can be operated either via adjustable mini levers integrated into the armrest or via ergonomically arranged hydraulic levers on the vehicle bonnet. The intuitive switching of the direction of travel on the hydraulic or mini-lever takes the strain off the driver, as he does not have to reach round to switch. The power steering ensures that only low steering forces and few steering wheel turns are required when manoeuvring. With a steering angle of 101° (Zero Steer Turn Axle), the vehicle turns almost on the spot and is ideal for use in narrow aisles. The SE30s is, in particular characterised by uncompromising manoeuvrability. In this model, Clark combines the compact frame of the 2.5 tonne model with a higher load capacity of three tonnes and the powerful twin-engine front-wheel drive. This makes the SE30s ideal for handling heavy loads in extremely space-critical work areas.

For extra safety

For operators who prioritise maximum safety, additional safety features are available as an option. These include, for example, the load weight indicator, which measures the weight of the load on the forks and helps to prevent the truck from being overloaded. With the Vertical Mast System (VMS), which is also optional, a tilt sensor automatically brings the mast into a vertical position so that goods can be loaded and unloaded quickly and safely. The VMS positions the mast vertically both when tilting forwards and backwards and equalises the vehicle position on uneven floors or ramps.

New Clark SafeView HD camera system

With the S-Series Electric, Clark is also launching the new optional SafeView HD camera, which is intended to replace the analogue SafeView camera system. The SafeView HD is a completely digital HD camera with 1280 x 720 pixels (16:9) and with three wide-angle cameras (left/rear/right) installed on the forklift as well as a 10-inch touchscreen. The operator can choose between different views as required (bird’s eye view, split screen view and 3D view). This significantly increases safety during use, as the operator always knows what is happening in their working environment in real time with a frame rate of 30 fps.

Customised for the application

Clark offers extensive additional equipment and options for different applications for the S-Series Electric: The optional equipment includes different cabs, such as rain protection (steel roof), weather protection (steel roof and windscreen), partial (steel roof, front and rear windscreen) and full cabs, mini levers integrated in the armrest with direction of travel change or mechanical levers, side battery change by hand pallet truck, blue LED warning lights as visual reversing warning, load weight indicator, USB charging port for charging mobile devices, attachments and additional safety options.

Unbeatably Manoeuvrable, Safe to Operate

Clark has launched a new, manoeuvrable high-lift truck with lithium-ion technology. The SWX16, with a load capacity of 1.6t, is suitable for transporting goods over short distances in industry, trade and distribution. Thanks to its extraordinary manoeuvrability, the compact high-lift truck is unbeatable when it comes to moving goods quickly and safely in confined spaces with a hand-operated device – whether in the warehouse pre-zone or at the high rack.

The pedestrian stacker has a maximum lift height of 5500 mm and so can easily reach even higher shelves. With a turning radius of only 1507 mm, the truck is also designed to be extremely compact so that safe load handling is possible even in space-critical work areas. The SXW16 also has a lot to offer in terms of handling performance: For example, the lifting and lowering speeds of 0.20 m/s and 0.26 m/s (with and without load) and 0.4 m/s and 0.3 m/s (with and without load) are significantly higher than those of its predecessor.

User-friendly and safe thanks to Clark SpeedControl

The standard Clark SpeedControl (CSC) increases safety during operation. CSC automatically adjusts the driving speed to the position of the tiller. This means that the smaller the distance between the operator and the vehicle, the more the speed of the hand-guided warehouse assistant is reduced. When the driver releases the tiller, the vehicle brakes automatically. With the tiller in the normal driving position, the vehicle reaches the maximum driving speed of 5.5 km/h. All parameters of the CSC can be individually adjusted according to the customer’s wishes. In addition, the proportional hydraulic control, which is also standard, ensures safe and precise storage and retrieval of sensitive loads.

For intuitive and fatigue-free operation of the vehicle, all controls are positioned within easy reach in the ergonomic tiller and can be operated by both right-handed and left-handed operators. Because the tiller is long and low, the operator can operate the vehicle with sufficient safety distance. In addition, he has an optimal view of the forks and can store and retrieve loads quickly and safely even in narrow racking aisles.

Li-Ion power ensures maximum efficiency

The SWX16 is equipped with a maintenance-free, encapsulated 1.6 kW three-phase traction motor. This ensures powerful acceleration and high travel speeds. The powerful 4.5 kW lift motor guarantees maximum efficiency when lifting and lowering loads. The SWX16 is available with a 24 V, 205 Ah lithium-ion battery (Li-Ion). It therefore also proves itself in multi-shift use, because the Li-Ion battery can be recharged at any time and within a very short time – for example during breaks – without damaging the battery or shortening its service life. The battery can be recharged at any 230-volt socket. Clark offers a 24 V, 100 Ah charger for Li-Ion batteries in the scope of delivery. With Li-Ion technology, the vehicle has a high level of availability thanks to the battery’s rapid charging capability, as time-consuming battery replacement is no longer necessary. Moreover, Li-Ion technology not only increases productivity, but also saves costs for maintenance, infrastructure, and replacement batteries. This makes a Li-Ion vehicle worthwhile for anyone who wants to operate a maintenance-free, long-lasting, and fast-charging battery with a high safety standard. For application profiles where a Li-Ion battery is not required, the SWX16 is also available with a lead-acid battery with a battery capacity of 24 V, 225 Ah.

Low operating costs through easy maintenance

The use of proven AC controllers makes the SWX16 high-lift truck an extremely maintenance-friendly warehouse helper. Should a malfunction nevertheless occur, the error code indication in the display provides the service technician with information about the possible cause. Thanks to a one-piece bonnet, the truck offers easy access for service and maintenance work. In addition, the service technician can easily program the travel and lift parameters via the vehicle display.

The operations are managed at four headquarters around the world. Production is assembled according to European quality standards at plants in Korea, the United States, Vietnam and China. With 180 Clark dealers in 60 countries, CLARK Europe GmbH is one of four subsidiaries of CMHI and serves the regions of Europe, the Middle East and Africa from its headquarters in Duisburg, Germany.

Extra Power for Intensive Applications

Clark has given the PPFXS20 electric low-lift truck with integrated operator platform a face-lift for intensive applications. In the process, the materials handling vehicles specialist has not only improved the ergonomics and user-friendliness of the truck, but also the performance: for particularly intensive operations, the low-lift trucks are now also available with lithium-ion technology.

The PPFXS20 with a load capacity of two tons has an integrated operator platform with padded side walls. This provides the operator with maximum comfort, especially on longer journeys. The low-lift truck is thus ideal for use in the transport of goods by road, the loading and unloading of trucks via ramps as well as for the order picking of a wide variety of goods in industry, trade, and distribution.

Powerful and safe

The PPFXS20 is equipped with a maintenance-free and enclosed 1.6 kW three-phase traction motor. This provides powerful acceleration and high speeds of up to 10 km/h. The powerful 2.2 kW lift motor guarantees maximum efficiency when lifting and lowering loads. Thanks to the high battery capacity of 375 Ah for the lead-acid battery, the pallet truck achieves optimum battery life. The pallet truck is available with side battery change as standard. The quick and easy battery replacement via a roller bed guarantees high availability of the truck. For particularly demanding applications or for multi-shift operation, the PPFXS20 is also optionally available with a 205 Ah lithium-ion battery. The Li-Ion battery can be recharged at any time and within a very short time – for example during breaks – without damaging the battery or shortening its service life. Recharging the battery is possible at any 230-volt socket. In just 10 minutes, 7 % of the battery capacity can be recharged. This reduces the downtime that would be necessary to change the battery. After only three hours, the battery is fully charged again. Li-Ion technology not only increases productivity, but also saves costs for maintenance, infrastructure, and replacement batteries. This makes a Li-Ion vehicle worthwhile for anyone who wants to operate a maintenance-free, long-lasting, and fast-charging battery with a high safety standard.

Improved ergonomics ensure intuitive operation

For handling work and horizontal transport over long distances, the generous side access with an opening range of 445 mm enables the operator to climb up and down from the vehicle quickly and safely. While driving, the operator can comfortably lean against the padded backrest of the generously designed operator’s platform. The operator’s platform is fully suspended and guarantees vibration-free operation so that the operator can concentrate fully on his work. The ergonomic tiller is height adjustable.

All controls can be operated intuitively and without fatigue by both left- and right-handed operators. The rounded fork tips allow safe and speedy threading into the pallet and thus contribute to a high turnover of goods. The all-electric power steering is smooth. This allows the vehicle to be manoeuvred precisely and safely even in the tightest of spaces, for example in narrow racking aisles. For greater safety when cornering, the automatic reduction of the driving speed is proportional to the steering angle. This reduces the centrifugal forces acting on the operator.

Low-lift Pallet Truck Helper

Clark has launched a new low-lift pallet truck for light transport tasks. The vehicle with the model designation LWio15 has a load capacity of 1500 kg and is suitable for short distances in goods distribution, production or in the warehouse. The vehicle is equipped with a long-lasting and powerful Li-Ion battery, which makes the LWio15 a reliable helper in industry, trade and logistics. Especially when a low-lift truck is only needed occasionally, the LWio15 is extremely cost efficient.

Compact and safe pallet truck

The LWio15 drives and lifts purely electrically. The operator can therefore operate the truck safely and ergonomically without any effort. With a length to the front of the forks (L2 dimension) of only 400 mm and an aisle width of only 1810 mm, the low-lift truck is extremely compact and manoeuvrable. Via a switch integrated in the ergonomic tiller, the truck can also be moved with the tiller raised. This makes the low-lift truck ideal for use in space-critical work areas and narrow aisles. Optional side support rollers prevent the vehicle from tipping and ensure stable and safe handling even when cornering. The LWio15 has a lifting height of 105 mm and is available with a fork length of 900 mm or 1500 mm, depending on the application.

Li-Ion battery guarantees high availability

The LWio15 is equipped with a 24 V (20 Ah) Li-Ion battery as standard and a storage compartment in which a second battery, also with 24 V (20 Ah), can be accommodated as an option. Intermediate charging, for example during breaks, can extend the vehicle’s operating time and avoid downtimes without limiting its service life. To charge the battery, the external charger included in the scope of delivery is simply connected to a 230 V socket. The battery can be quickly and safely removed from the side when it needs to be changed.

The operator also benefits from numerous advantages that have a positive effect on operating costs: Compared to the monobloc battery, the Li-Ion battery has a longer service life. There is no additional expense for maintenance work around the battery acid, as the Li-Ion battery is maintenance-free. Intermediate charging can be carried out without a special charging room, as no gases are released during charging.

Tugger Train Launched for More Efficient Production Logistics

Tugger trains and a synchronized material supply are an important component of value-added and customer-oriented production logistics – this has long been recognized by the automotive industry. For this reason, Clark has launched a tugger train system that specifically addresses the specific requirements of industrial customers.

The tugger train consists of the Clark CTX40-70 towing tractor with a towing capacity of 4 or 7 t and the CTR01 and CTR02 trailers. The CTR01 trailer, designed as a single U-frame, is built for customers who mainly have to transport Euro pallets. It can accommodate a mobile trolley on which Euro pallets (1200 x 800 mm) with a maximum load capacity of 1200 kg can be transported.

The CTR02 Double U-Frame trailer can accommodate both Euro pallets and other types of pallets commonly used in industry. Via a sliding inner carrier, the operator can flexibly choose between a trolley measuring 1600 x 1000 mm with a load capacity of up to 1600 kg or two trolleys for transporting Euro pallets with a load weight of 800 kg each.

Loading from both sides

The Clark trailers allow ergonomic loading from both sides up to a total height of 1400 mm per trolley. From either side the operator can push the smooth-running trolleys into the lifting system of the frame without much effort, which then automatically locks into place. Another advantage is that the operator can walk through the frame to get to the other side of the trailer. The trailer’s electric lift system requires little maintenance and has a lift height of 60 mm. A latching mechanism ensures that the trolleys are securely fixed in the frame. An immobilizer prevents the tugger train from starting up when the lift is lowered.

For coupling and uncoupling the trailers, a coupling with remote release is available in addition to the standard trailer coupling without remote release. This has the advantage that the tractors can automatically couple and uncouple additional trailers: The towing tractor can, for example, after delivering materials to the destination, uncouple the trailers and automatically couple empty trailers waiting there for the next “milk-run”. The tugger train can thus be flexibly integrated into other production processes.

Precise tracking during all driving maneuvers

The Clark trailers are designed to be slim and robust, making the tugger train extremely compact and the operator has a good overview. However, the perfect directional stability of the tugger train is particularly noteworthy. This is guaranteed by the electrically steered wheels in the rear axle module: One trailer follows the other exactly in one lane both on a straight track and when cornering. As a result, the tugger train requires a small traffic area and can be used safely even in the tightest of spaces.

Flexibility in trailer selection

The heart of the modular tugger train system is the autonomous electric steering system. This is not only maintenance-free, but also offers the advantage that it uses sensor information measured directly at the axle. Mechanical, hydraulic or electric steering information is not routed via the trailers and therefore does not have to be taken into account in the design of the load modules. The modular system allows free configurability with virtually no design restrictions. This means that individual customer requirements can be taken into account. The customer can easily exchange trailers via a standardized interface. This has the advantage that different trailers can also be combined to form a tugger train.

Powerful and agile draft horses

The tugger train is led by the Clark towing tractors of the CTX series. Thanks to their compact design and good maneuverability, they are the ideal towing vehicles for tugger train systems. The robust tow tractors have very good pulling power and, thanks to powerful 48-volt AC traction motors, high thrust. The low-maintenance drive system has been designed for the toughest applications with quiet operation. The ergonomic driver’s workplace leaves nothing to be desired. The driver can easily get on and off this truck from both sides. The workplace itself offers plenty of legroom, an automotive-style pedal arrangement and generous storage compartments. Low vibration levels and a minimal noise level during operation guarantee comfortable and safe driving. Up to 20 performance parameters are individually programmable on the CTX, including acceleration, creep function, and regenerative braking, to tailor driving performance to the operator’s requirements. Numerous options, such as a bracket with warning light, a comfortable driver’s cab or the coupling/uncoupling aid ensure that the vehicle can be optimally adapted to the requirement profile of the operation.

Focus on the requirements of the customer

The idea for the Clark tugger train was born after the successful completion of a customer project and the knowledge gained from it. A large automobile manufacturer in the Russian Federation required a tugger train for more efficient material supply to production, which is equally designed for the transport of Euro pallets and other pallet sizes. At the plant, large heavy engines weighing 1600 kg as well as other vendor parts were to be delivered to the production line just-in-time. Since the traffic area there is space-critical, it was desired that the trailers could be loaded from both sides. In addition, the tugger train had to be able to keep exactly to the specified lane. This requirement profile gave rise to the CTR02 double U-frame trailer. Today, the customer can transport parts of different sizes and weights to the assembly stations with a “milk-run” and thereby increase added value.

Clark Moves its French Office in Strategic Move

Materials handling vehicles company, Clark has moved its French office from Saint-Laurent-de-Mure to a new company building in Saint-Quentin-Fallavier, 10 kilometers away (pictured.) The French municipality is located in the Isère department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region about 20 kilometers southeast of Lyon. With this strategic step, Clark wants to expand its market position in France and prepare for future growth.

The change of office location in France became necessary because in the past the administration was located at a different site than the warehouse and workshop area. This slowed down processes. At the new location, all business areas are now under one roof and capacities could be additionally expanded. The new company building covers 850 square meters 760 square meters alone are allotted to the warehouse for new and used equipment. Here, 90 to 120 Clark materials handling vehicles are stored for direct access. The building also houses the order management, sales support, technical support, training and final quality control, and shipping departments. Country-specific adaptations are also made at the site in accordance with customer requirements.

“The relocation of Clark France to Saint-Quentin-Fallavier was an important move, not only to set the course for further growth, but also to be able to respond even better to the requirements of French customers,” says Rolf Eiten, President & CEO of Clark Europe GmbH in Duisburg.

“Relocating has allowed us to expand our storage capacity and make internal processes much more efficient,” adds Olivier Bellissan, branch manager of Clark France, “as we aim to exceed our customers’ expectations in the future.”

Clark France SARL was founded in 2009 and serves a total of 59 Clark distributors in France and the French overseas territories as well as in countries such as Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Congo, Mauritania and Ivory Coast.

Clark Europe announced last year its new sales partners in Switzerland and Norway.

Two New Hand Pallet Trucks Launched

Clark has launched two new hand pallet trucks for different customer requirements. The trucks are the HPT Eco and the HPT Premium.

Built by Clark, one of the worldwide market leaders in the industrial truck business, both the HPT Eco and the HPT Premium are designed for loads with a maximum of 2,500 kg. Both units are characterized by a robust design and easy operation. Their sturdy frame is powder-coated for high resistance to wear and tear, thus guaranteeing a long service life. Lifting and lowering of the load is done manually by a hydraulic pump. The operator can lift and manoeuvre weights of several tons with very little effort. The proportional valve allows the forks to be lowered smoothly and sensitively even with heavy loads. The pressure relief valve protects against overloading the lift truck. The equipment runs very smoothly during moving, lifting and lowering. The hand pallet trucks also score points due to their low unladen weight and manoeuvrability. This is particularly advantageous when space is limited.

For a high handling performance, both units can optionally be equipped with Quicklift (quick lift) and thus loads up to 150 kg can be lifted and moved quickly in the warehouse. Both hand pallet trucks are equipped with entry and exit rollers and are available with different roller designs (nylon, rubber or poly) and fork lengths. Thus, wherever pallets or other load carriers have to be picked up and transported, Clark hand pallet trucks ensure ergonomic and efficient work processes at low purchase and maintenance costs.

Maximum productivity with minimum effort

The HPT Eco was designed for lighter applications. It has a unladen weight of 69 kg and a maximum steering angle of 190°. Thanks to the large steering angle of the tiller, the hand pallet truck is manoeuvrable in extremely narrow spaces. With a net weight of 63 kg, the HPT Premium even has a maximum steering angle of 205° and is designed for demanding customers. The robustly designed frame as well as the drawbar ensure that the HPT Premium is highly stable even in tougher applications.

Both vehicles are characterized by their simple operation: The HPT Eco has a curved drawbar and the handle for operating the hydraulics is angled. On the HPT Premium, the tiller is more ergonomically designed. For this purpose, it has been made slightly smaller and the handle has been wrapped to ensure good grip. Both machines require little maintenance and can be operated without additional technical equipment. The Premium machine has a quick mounting system for quick attachment or replacement of the drawbar.

Earlier this year Clark announced they had also boosted their warehouse truck range with new lithium trucks
