Samsara Unveils Product Innovations and Strategic Partnership

Today, Samsara, the pioneer of the Connected Operations® Cloud, unveiled its latest product innovations at its premier Go Beyond conference, London, designed to empower leaders with greater visibility across their operations and assets and gain deeper insights through AI. At the event, Samsara also announced a strategic partnership update with ACSS, further emphasising its commitment to driving technology innovation across the industry.

Go Beyond, taking place on 12 November in London gathers 250+ innovators across the physical operations industry, including Otto Car, Lanes Group, Fraikin, and more.

Connecting Operations to Drive Tangible Impact

Samsara’s latest product innovations further connect physical operations and fuel AI-powered insights to drive tangible results for businesses: Connected Training, Low Bridge Strike Alerting, Electronic Brake Performance Monitoring System, and Privacy Mode.

• Connected Training: Despite being one of the most dangerous industries with millions of injuries each year, the transportation sector lacks modern training methods that are customised and adaptable for their unique work environments. With Connected Training,™ which is now available in beta in the UK, customers can have a data-driven training experience designed for continuous, remote learning via the Samsara Driver App. Managers can upskill their workforce by consolidating all training within the Samsara platform and connecting with existing workflows for a seamless employee experience. Early adopters have seen a 35% average decrease in safety events when using Connected Training.

• Low Bridge Strike Alerting: Around 2,000 bridge strikes happen in the UK every year, with the average collision costing UK tax payers around £23m a year. With Low Bridge Strike Alerting, fleet operators can set the maximum height for each vehicle in their fleet to minimise the chance of tall vehicles impacting the underside of bridges. Through Samsara Dash Cam in-cab audio alerts, drivers are warned whenever they approach a bridge that is too low to pass.

• Electronic Brake Performance Monitoring System (EBPMS): In the UK, from 2025, an EBPMS will become one of the two only accepted methods for brake testing to maintain DVSA standards for roadworthiness. To help fleets prepare for this, Samsara designed its EBPMS solution — allowing fleets to maintain braking performance records by continuously collecting data from the installed EBPMS units. Managers will be proactively alerted in the Samsara dashboard when braking performance falls below acceptable standards, or if the electronic braking system detects faults, so they can take timely action. This minimises the need to present heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) for physical laden roller brake tests and proves roadworthiness without the need to take vehicles to Ministry of Transport (MOT) testing facilities.

• Privacy Mode: This new feature within Samsara’s Video-Based Safety solution helps prevent accidents in real time without the need to record video. It allows customisation within Samsara’s Dash Cams, enabling recording on both driver and outward-facing cameras to be turned off at the administrator level. AI safety events will still be triggered, allowing drivers to be coached on the road, helping to prevent and reduce road accidents.

“These new product features have been driven by Samsara’s deeply embedded culture of customer feedback,” said Kiren Sekar, Samsara’s chief product officer. “We collaborate with some of Europe’s largest and most complex operational companies to solve hard problems using the unparalleled scale of our regional and global data. Our customers are using our platform to turn this data into real human impact by making roads safer and reconnecting their people to the work they love doing.”

“At Otto Car, we’re not waiting for the future to come to us; we’re leaning into it, and Samsara’s technology has been instrumental in helping us achieve that goal,” said Gurinder Dhillon, CEO of Otto Car. “Samsara’s technology has played a crucial role in our business and remains essential. I am personally excited to be part of this event and impressed by the breadth and depth of the ongoing innovation. Our future with Samsara continues to look very exciting.”

New Partnership Drive Industry-Wide Safety Innovation

In addition to the new product features, Samsara has announced a strategic partnership with commercial vehicle camera and security solutions provider ACSS.

“We’re pleased to welcome ACSS into our growing ecosystem of strategic partners,” said Philip van der Wilt, SVP and GM EMEA at Samsara. “By collaborating with these industry experts, we’re able to deliver comprehensive and user-centric solutions, enriching the overall experience for our mutual fleet customers.”

The collaboration with ACSS will combine the advanced capabilities of ACSS cameras with Samsara’s intuitive dashboard, allowing fleet operators to benefit from a seamless experience that centralises camera feeds, analytics, and operational insights in one platform. This gives them complete 360° vehicle coverage, reducing blind spots, enhancing driver visibility, monitoring cargo in real-time and mitigating risks such as fuel theft.

Paul Howell, Sales and Marketing Manager at ACSS said: “ACSS focuses on enhancing the safety of commercial vehicle fleets. Working with Samsara is the next step for us in providing a comprehensive safety platform. Harnessing the power of Samsara, ACSS are able to add, for the first time, 1080p, 360 vehicle coverage straight into the client dashboard. With the ability to pull through camera feeds from our DVS2 AI solution too, customers are finding dual return on their PSS investment. With the compliance box ticked they’re also able to use those same cameras to feed directly into their dashboard.”

Research Indicates AI Revolution has Arrived in Transport Ops

The leaders of physical operations-led organisations in the UK and Ireland are leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance safety, maximise efficiency, and empower their employees. That’s according to a new 2024 State of Connected Operations Report — Smarter, Faster, Safer: The AI Revolution in Physical Operations — from Samsara, a pioneer of the Connected Operations™ Cloud.

With perspectives from more than 1,500 physical operations leaders across seven countries, including 300 in the UK and Ireland, the report reveals how AI is already revolutionising how these organisations operate — and how leaders are transforming their operations and unlocking new efficiencies. This original research found that 99% of operations leaders in the UK and Ireland believe their organisation needs to invest in AI technology solutions to keep up in today’s environment.

“AI is everywhere, and physical operations leaders are quickly embracing it,” said Evan Welbourne, Head of AI and Data at Samsara. “When used strategically, advances in AI can bring meaningful change to the companies that power our global economy. For example, it can reduce costs, boost efficiency, and even save workers’ lives in the field.”

AI investment is on the rise

While some industries are slower to adopt AI, organisations within physical operations are embracing it, viewing it as a market-tested technology whose utility is proven and expanding. Nearly all (99%) leaders in the UK and Ireland believe AI technology is vital to keep up, and 89% of organisations say they plan to increase investments in AI within the next 12 months. With continued pressures around labour shortages, geopolitical conflicts, and reshoring, technology will be key as organisations face these challenges.

The use of AI is growing in physical operations — and employees see that as a good thing

AI is not seen as an experimental technology for the industries that keep the global economy running smoothly. Nearly half (45%) of leaders in the UK and Ireland say their organisation is already using AI, attributing the most significant benefits to improving safety (46%) and employee productivity (45%). Leadership roles are not the only ones within these organisations that are bullish on AI–89% of those already using AI say their employees feel positive about it. This may be because workers are seeing the direct benefit these solutions have on their day-to-day lives through enhanced workplace safety and efficiency.

Security and data privacy come first

It takes massive amounts of data to run AI technology, representing a huge responsibility — and risk — for any organisation. Physical operations leaders are not cutting corners. Of those already using AI or planning to in the next 1-2 years, 57% are implementing privacy and data protection measures. For the 55% of organisations that plan to adopt AI solutions created by external technology partners, security is not to be sacrificed for functionality. 55% of leaders said they care most about a partner’s ability to integrate with existing systems, and security and privacy compliance (48%).

“Not all AI solutions are created equal,” says Welbourne. “You have to be able to trust the system, and that means finding a technology partner who not only has a proven track record with responsible innovation, but who also deeply understands your business and the challenges you’re up against.”

Haulier Reduces Fleet Emissions and Achieves Accreditation

International haulage company JJX Logistics has improved the safety and sustainability of its fleet operations by implementing advanced AI solutions from Samsara, the pioneer of the Connected Operations™ Cloud. The move has enabled JJX Logistics to achieve a 17% reduction in fleet emissions in just three months and become one of the seven UK companies to gain Transported Asset Protection Association (TAPA) Trucking Security Requirements (TSR) Level 1 approval.

With more than 70% of goods handled by JJX Logistics being UN-regulated dangerous goods — such as commercial lithium-ion battery packs and Class 8 corrosive liquids — Samsara has played a pivotal role in ensuring the safety of drivers carrying dangerous, high-value cargo.

By fitting its fleet of 58 hard-bodied, soft-sided and temperature-regulated trailers, Sprinter vans, and articulated trucks with Samsara’s dual-facing cameras and AI-driven Vehicle Gateways, JJX Logistics has full visibility of every vehicle, which can be monitored and tracked on a single screen.

Samsara’s technology has also been pivotal in reducing overall vehicle emissions and improving fuel efficiency. Within the first three months of implementing Samsara’s monitoring features, the company has achieved a 17% reduction in vehicle emissions. The ability to monitor idling times has also helped to shape changes in driver behaviour, saving almost 400 gallons of fuel in the second half of 2023.

Haulier Reduces Fleet Emissions

Edward Martin, Head of Security & Fleet Compliance at JJX Logistics comments: “We’re continuously operating in a high-pressure environment where compliance is paramount. We’re not about moving items from A to B in bulk, as fast or as cheap as possible – we’re a solutions-driven company who work with our customers to tailor the perfect approach for every individual task. And we are able to operate at a high level of service because of the value the Samsara technology adds to our operations.

“Our vehicles are now being driven better, and this is increasing sustainability, fuel efficiency and hopefully insurance costs. The real-time tracking, transparency and efficiency we can now achieve is part of our credibility as a business.”

Philip van der Wilt, SVP and GM EMEA at Samsara, said: “Like us, JJX Logistics views every customer engagement as a partnership. Trustworthiness, reliability and customer service are at the heart of their business and regardless of what they transport, one thing that links their customers and their consignments is security and the assurance they can provide to ensure that their loads are safe. We’re pleased that our technology is playing a pivotal role in that, and we’re looking forward to seeing our partnership with JJX grow even further.”

Reduction in Non-fault Claims with AI

International haulage firm Roelofs Transport has been working with Samsara, a pioneer of the Connected Operations™ Cloud, to digitise its operations as it continues to grow. By implementing Samsara’s Dual-Facing AI-powered dash cams, Mobile Experience Management and Fleet Telematics, Roelofs Transport has real-time visibility into its operations and is managing its fleet more safely and efficiently.

Roelofs Transport has evolved over the past three decades from a family business into an international haulage firm boasting a fleet of over 50 Scania trucks, across multiple countries between Italy and the Netherlands. It faced challenges including ensuring drivers were adhering to legal time limits during extended shifts, and encountering incidents of vehicle and cargo damage, which resulted in substantial costs and an impact on the company’s reputation. As a result, Roelofs Transport required an advanced solution to track its expanding fleet, gain insights into driver behaviour, and effectively address issues in real-time.

With Samsara’s Vehicle Gateway, Roelofs has unlocked enhanced telematics functionality, optimising routes, elevating customer service, and curbing fuel wastage. This has helped Roelofs to reduce the number of processes it had in a typical delivery from 88 to just four – a reduction of 95%. With the company taking on around 400 deliveries per week, this has reduced workload significantly for employees and has improved customer service.

Additionally, Samsara’s Dual-facing AI-powered dash cams have allowed Roelofs to reduce unsafe driving, while shielding drivers in incidents caused by other road users. Beyond critical event recording, the cameras hold more value through AI-driven In-Cab Coaching, which offers immediate guidance to drivers based on incidents. Through improved employee coaching and streamlined video-based investigation, Roelofs Transport has seen a significant cut in non-fault claims by 60%, which has also lowered insurance policy premiums.

Dennis Hendriks, Operations Manager at Roelofs Transport, comments: “Our drivers can be away from base for extended periods of time, up to two weeks. With Samsara’s In-Cab Coaching, our drivers can review their coaching event on the same day, or at the next stop, which helps correct and improve driving behaviours, in real-time.”

Philip van der Wilt, SVP and GM EMEA at Samsara, said: “By harnessing vehicle data and 360-degree cameras and feeding them into Samsara’s cloud platform, we have transformed Roelofs Transports’ operations to help them to better manage their growing fleet, setting them up for the future. As we continue to roll out innovative features, visionary companies like Roelofs Transport stand to offer their customers even greater benefits”.
