High-speed Ramdoor Installed at Forklift Facility

Union Industries, one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of bespoke industrial doors, has assisted Crown Lift Trucks in addressing multiple operational challenges with the installation of its cutting-edge high-speed Ramdoor.

Crown Lift Trucks, based in Warrington, faced several issues at its facility, including the need to segregate two adjoining units with different temperature requirements while allowing the movement of high-mast forklift trucks through a large opening.

To tackle these challenges, Union Industries produced a bespoke solution to accommodate the building configuration, ensuring the required opening height could be achieved without compromising functionality. Additionally, the limited space at high-level, between structural steel frames, posed a significant obstacle.

The installation of the Ramdoor not only addressed the temperature control and safety concerns but also enhanced operational efficiency. Union Industries designed the door to accommodate Crown Lift Trucks’ requirements while incorporating a pedestrian access door to segregate traffic flow, ensuring a safer working environment.

The Ramdoor features a dual height opening facility, allowing for optimal heat retention while accommodating different forklift sizes. Furthermore, the engineered seals and infills achieve a seamless finish, enhancing both functionality and aesthetics. It has also been designed to achieve a Class 5 wind resistance rating, making it able to withstand strong winds and to remain operational even during severe weather conditions.

Achieving this rating is supported by a number of the door’s features, including its thick Ramhide door curtain material, which is high frequency welded to give the strongest fabric joins available.

In addition, it features heavy-duty wind-brace and wind-bar systems for added strength, plus extra-deep side-guides, which all contribute to the Ramdoor’s ability to cope with high wind loads and pressures. Like other doors in the Union range, it also benefits from a ‘Crash Out’ facility, in case of vehicle or personnel impact to the bottom beam, thus ensuring minimal downtime and repair costs.

Alan Hirst, Sales Director at Union Industries, said: “We are delighted to have assisted Crown Lift Trucks in overcoming their operational challenges with our high-speed Ramdoor. This project highlights our ability to provide innovative solutions tailored to our customers’ specific needs.”

Mark Eccleston, Branch Manager, at Crown Lift Trucks, said: “Union Industries’ Ramdoor has revolutionised our operational efficiency and safety standards. Their dedication to understanding our unique requirements and delivering a bespoke solution underscores their commitment to customer satisfaction. The Ramdoor not only enhances temperature control and traffic segregation but also contributes to our sustainability goals. We are grateful for their expertise and partnership in achieving our objectives.”

High Speed Door helps Sonoco with Efficiency

Union Industries, a British manufacturer of bespoke industrial doors, has helped Sonoco introduce more efficient operating procedures with the installation of its high speed Ramdoor.

It represents a first for the paper mill in Halifax, West Yorkshire, which recycles wastepaper and cardboard – converting it into a range of useful products. With efficiency in mind, Union’s rugged Ramdoor replaced a slow and outdated roller shutter door, at the same time helping with the segregation of pedestrian and vehicular traffic.

Sited in a section of the warehouse leading to the waste yard, the newly installed Ramdoor has enabled Sonoco to increase the frequency of both large machinery and forklift traffic through this entranceway, in line with changes to their operating procedures.

Due to the large volumes of wastepaper processed, it is important that the Ramdoor seals quickly, preventing the ingress of debris. A Class 5 wind resistance rating provides extra benefit – helping maintain operations during more challenging weather conditions.

Sonoco, a multi-billion-dollar global provider of consumer packaging, industrial products and packaging supply chain services, has been a customer of Union Industries for almost 30 years, having previously fitted four Matadoors.

This is the first Ramdoor to be installed at the site – features include a variable speed drive motor with frequency inverter for greater control, thick Ramhide door blade material with anti-static additive and a ‘Crash Out’ system which reduces the potential of bottom beam damage – helping to minimise downtime and repair costs. The heavy-duty wind-bar system, combined with the extra-deep side-guides, provides added strength, and contributes to the Ramdoor’s ability to cope with high wind loads and pressures.

Paul Hindley, Engineering Manager at Sonoco, said: “The installation of the Ramdoor at our Halifax facility is a game-changer. It allows for quicker, safer, and more efficient movement of our large machinery and vehicles. This has enabled us to introduce changes to our operational procedures, creating more efficiency. This upgrade is part of our commitment to continuously improve both our operational processes as well as our safety standards.”

Rob Howe, Technical Sales Engineer at Union Industries, said: “We are delighted to continue our long-standing partnership with Sonoco by providing them with a flexible and highly effective solution.

“The Ramdoor offers superior performance and durability, and in this instance has allowed Sonoco to ensure that this external entrance can cope with increasing traffic flows, effectively future proofing its requirements and allowing for future growth.”

Bespoke Industrial Door Installed

Union Industries, one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of bespoke industrial doors, has helped Esterform overcome multiple issues with the installation of its cutting-edge high-speed Ramdoor.

The project was overseen by Union Industries’ new Technical Sales Engineer, Gary Clayton (pictured). A sales and engineering professional with almost 20 years of experience across various sectors, Clayton will cover the regions across the south of England for the sales division of Union.

Tenbury Wells-based Esterform, the largest independent converter of PET in the UK, faced operational setbacks with its previous high-speed door due to poor performance, escalating repair costs and frequent failures during adverse weather conditions. As a result, it decided to replace its existing door after selecting Union Industries’ robust Ramdoor. The Ramdoor has been engineered to achieve a Class 5 wind resistance rating, making it able to withstand strong winds and to remain operational even during severe weather conditions.

Achieving this rating is supported by a number of the Ramdoor’s features, including its thick Ramhide door curtain material, which is high frequency welded together, giving the strongest fabric joins available. In addition, it has heavy-duty wind-brace and wind-bar systems for added strength, plus extra-deep side-guides, which all contribute to the Ramdoor’s ability to cope with high wind loads and pressures. Like other doors in the Union range, it also benefits from a ‘Crash Out’ facility, in case of vehicle or personnel impact to the bottom beam, thus ensuring minimal downtime and repair costs.

The Ramdoor at Esterform has been equipped with visual and audible warning systems, to enhance safety and functionality in a high-noise environment. These additional extras ensure that employees are alerted to the door’s operation, allowing them to take necessary precautions.
