Pallet Freight Network Consolidation in UK

Pall-Ex Group has announced a major step in its long-term strategic plan, confirming the merging of the Fortec and Pall-Ex palletised freight distribution networks. The consolidation reinforces the Group’s ongoing commitment to operational excellence, service quality and member-driven growth.

Effective from 1st January 2026, the UK networks will evolve, operating under a unified Pall-Ex brand. The move marks the final phase of network consolidation and has been part of the long-term project since acquiring Fortec in 2020.

Pall-Ex Group COO, Barry Byers, commented: “When we acquired Fortec five years ago, our purpose was to gain market share, increase hub capacity and strengthen our network with quality members, all of which have been achieved.”

The introduction of the Group’s core operating system Nexus was the start of the network consolidation. Simultaneously, member territories were re-engineered across the UK to create operational synergies through increased drop density, resulting in enhanced revenues and condensed territories.

“Our next phase was to align our commercial offering to both our shareholder members and valued customers, which was deployed in early 2025. We are now entering the final phase of consolidation, simplifying our operational and commercial activities by operating as a unified force in the market,” continued Byers.

Pall-Ex Group has continued its evolution through the launch of the Pall-Ex Logistics UK Storage and Fulfilment Network, diversifying its offering to provide tailored distribution services from local storage facilities across the UK, connected through a bespoke warehouse management system.

In addition, this announcement follows Pall-Ex Group’s landmark £80 million investment into a new Group HQ and flagship hub in Leicestershire. The 408,000 square feet Centre of Excellence will set the standard for capability, sustainability and innovation in the sector.

In preparation for the consolidation, the Group has invested £200,000 in upgrading its Watford Gap Hub, alongside a focused recruitment drive to expand the Hubs’ operations team and meet the demands of increased freight volumes.

From January 2026, all Pall-Ex shareholder members will access the current Flagship Hub (Leicestershire) and the nearest regional hub, either the Northern Hub (Rochdale) or the Watford Gap Hub (Northampton). This will enhance operational speed, increase regional hub volumes and create a more efficient service for customers across the UK.

Michelle Naylor, Managing Director – UK Network, commented: “Our long-term vision has always been to minimise operating costs and maximise efficiency while we evolve our customer offering to accelerate growth, and the time has come to deliver the next steps in our strategy to do so. This alignment within our group is about simplifying operations and creating exciting new growth opportunities for our existing shareholder members, whilst also attracting quality transport organisations to our network. It’s a win for our members, people and customers, and another huge step forward in shaping a stronger, more sustainable Pall-Ex Group.”

Palletised Freight Years of Service

Palletised freight distribution network, Pall-Ex Group, is celebrating a business milestone with 193 of its longest-serving employees collectively reaching 1,800 years of service. Each with continuous employment spanning from three to 45 years, the employees have been celebrated in a new long-service initiative brought about by the company. An awards ceremony recognising employees for their length of service is set to become an annual event, honouring their excellent dedication and commitment.

Long-service recognition is given to those employees that reach three, five and ten years, then every five years thereafter. Across Pall-Ex Group, 14% of its employees have reached their ten-year milestone, with the longest serving achieving an impressive 45 years’ service.

Employees across the business are given a range of benefits in addition to continuous training and incentive schemes to boost performance and encourage development. Those now achieving a long-service milestone are presented with a certificate and commemorative pin by Senior Management, along with additional holidays and bonus payments ranging from £100 to £1,500.

Among those who received the award was Ian Hooper who has been with the Pall-Ex Group team at Intercounty Distribution for 45 years. Commenting on his achievement Ian said: “No two days are the same at Pall-Ex which has kept my role interesting and varied over the years. From being a teenage boy, all I ever wanted to do was drive a truck for a company that values me and that is what I have been doing nearly all my working life. I am very proud to have worked for Intercounty Distribution as part of the Pall-Ex Group for over 45 years. It has been my second home and I have learnt a lot along the way, with far more training and technology now in place to assist me. I’d encourage anyone looking for a first job or new job to take a look at joining Pall-Ex as it has so much to offer.”

UK Managing Director Barry Byers added: “We’d like to offer all those employees who have been recognised many congratulations on their achievement. We are incredibly thankful for the unwavering dedication and loyalty of all our long-serving employees. Their commitment and passion continue to drive the business forward as we strive for excellence, and we are incredibly grateful to them, and all staff, as part of our Pall-Ex Group family.”

Five New Products to Euro Pallet Range

Fortec Distribution Network, a wholly owned subsidiary of Pall-Ex Group, is offering its members a market leading product portfolio by introducing the ‘Euro Pallet’ range.

Recently, Pall-Ex Group embarked on its biggest product range review in over 10 years to ensure Fortec and Pall-Ex members enjoy the most competitive range of pallet options in the industry, improving both flexibility and efficiency.

The review resulted in the introduction of the Euro Pallet Base range and the unique Parcel Pallet into the Fortec network, which will support consignments up to 1200kg. This will see the introduction of 5 new products, including:
• Parcel Pallet: 0.8 x 0.6 x 1.0 (up to 150kg)
• Euro Quarter: 1.2 x 0.8 x 0.6 (up to 300kg)
• Euro Half: 1.2 x 0.8 x 1.0 (up to 500kg)
• Euro Light: 1.2 x 0.8 x 2.2 (up to 600kg)
• Euro Full: 1.2 x 0.8 x 2.2 (up to 1200kg)

The new range will complement the existing standard tariff, including Fortec’s unique oversized pallet offering. Collectively, the Standard and Euro tariffs offer Fortec members the most comprehensive range of pallet dimensions available in the express palletised freight industry.

Further innovation and market research has resulted in the launch of the Parcel Pallet which is unique within the sector. The Parcel Pallet targets the grey area of the express delivery market, which sits between large parcel and small pallet consignments. It provides customers with a cost-effective, efficient, and secure way to send large parcel and multiple parcel consignments.

These additions to the product range give Fortec members the ability to offer complete flexibility to their customers, catering to a wider range of palletised freight requirements by allowing customers to choose the most appropriate pallet size for their freight.

Barry Byers, Managing Director – UK Group, at Pall-Ex, says “We’re very pleased to offer Fortec members this comprehensive range of products, the most competitive in the sector. We are always striving to provide service excellence and value to everyone who utilises the network and this improved product range ensures we can do just that.”
