Packaging firm increases storage efficiency

Aranco, a leader in industrial packaging services, has a versatile and agile 2,000 sq m warehouse equipped with AR Racking storage solutions in the town of Massamagrell (Valencia, Spain). The facility is in keeping with Aranco’s innovative spirit where diverse components of its wrapping machinery will be stored.

With more than 25 years of experience, Aranco is a comprehensive supplier of innovative, profitable and high-quality solutions with pallet wrapping machines and high-performance film. After a detailed study of the raw materials, finished product and machinery, AR Racking designed and executed the implementation of several different storage solutions in the new warehouse. The adjustable pallet racking, drive in racking and live pallet racking systems have generated 1,960, 288 and 288 positions for pallets, respectively.

The combination of the different storage systems will provide Aranco with versatile, agile and maximum efficiency warehouse operations. The installation was completed in 30 days.

“We offer comprehensive custom services for each wrapping process and our customers a 24/7 service. This requires high precision in all the process phases. In AR Racking we have found the ideal partner to maximise the efficiency of our warehouse, which will be key in our operations,” explained, Gaizka Lara Goiricelaya, CEO of Aranca.

Additionally, in the workshop several bays with adjustable pallet racking and longspan shelving with mesh have been installed. A carton flow rack system area has also been enabled for product preparation.

AR Racking extends manufacturer’s warehouse

PFERD-Rüggeberg S.A., leading brand in grinding tool solutions for treating surfaces and cutting materials, has extended its logistics manufacturing warehouse in Júndiz (Álava, Spain) entrusting in the industrial storage specialist AR Racking for the advice, design and installation of the warehouse extension.

PFERD’s ongoing commitment to quality and improvement processes have led to the recent extension of one of its eight production centres worldwide. AR Racking has installed an adjustable pallet racking system in the 2,500 sq m Júndiz warehouse. PFERD’s priority was that this extension would provide it optimum stock control and agile warehouse operations.

Adjustable pallet racking (or selective racking) is a very versatile system and also allows immediate access to all the unit loads. This installation has provided PFERD with a capacity for almost 3,200 pallets which took AR Racking just two weeks to complete.

According to Juan Zubieta, PFERD’s Planning and Purchasing Manager: “AR Racking offered us a solution in line with our needs to continue improving and to be more competitive in an incredibly demanding market, and the truth is that the project was completed in full conformity and with a high-quality service.”

USA Storage Systems Acquisition

Apex Companies, headquartered in Oak Brook, Illinois, has announced that Engineered Handling, Inc, a leading storage and warehouse equipment supplier based in Charlotte, North Carolina will join the Apex family of companies to support growing customer demand in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast states. The combined company—operating under Apex Warehouse Systems—unites the talents and capabilities of Engineered Handling’s existing staff with the sales, design, engineering, automation, and rack repair services of Apex Companies.

Chilled store installation completed in days

A specialist safety installation to secure racking frames in a chilled store in Dublin, Ireland, was completed in just four days by expert supplier Rack Collapse Prevention.

Fitted in all environments of ambient, chilled and frozen, Rack Collapse Prevention’s safety system is exceptionally durable, and unlike other racking safety systems, supports from the top instead of reinforcing from the bottom, meaning in a collision event the racking structure remains stable and standing, protecting staff, stock and removing the potential for significant business disruption.

BITO enjoys “most successful” year

Achieving a turnover of €303m, 2021 was strongest year in BITO-Lagertechnik Bittmann GmbH’s history, and a year when BITO received a climate-neutral certificate.

BITO storage and logistics solutions are in high demand. The past two years have presented enormous challenges for many companies, especially in the field of logistics. Border closures and supply chain disruptions as a result of the pandemic have demonstrated the fragility of supply networks from one moment to the next. Delivery delays have resulted in production stops or disruptions in trade chains.

“We have noticed that the circumstances have led to a change of mind in many companies. After the market had recovered from the initial shock, both internationally and nationally, the trend was clearly towards more stockpiling in order to cope with times like those caused by the pandemic. Companies were expanding their storage capacities, and many new logistics centres have been established,” says Winfried Schmuck, Chief Executive Officer at BITO-Lagertechnik.

In addition, some sectors, such as the online retail business, which has been booming for years anyway, continue to see enormous growth. This is a challenge that the companies concerned have to cope with, especially in their logistics. As a result, the demand for BITO storage and logistics solutions has also increased significantly. After a difficult year in 2020, 2021 became the strongest year in the BITO history with a turnover of €303m.

“We had the highest order intake since the company was founded, with full capacity utilisation in all areas,” says Schmuck. “Tonnages were moved through the production halls that would have been unimaginable a few years ago. A great success that we were only able to achieve together in a well-functioning team.”

BITO awarded climate-neutral certificate

There has been a positive development in implementing even more sustainable practices. In 2021, BITO-Lagertechnik was certified as a climate-neutral company.

Schmuck says: “Sustainability has always been a priority for us. We are proud of our quality products, which are designed to last. To name just a few aspects: BITO multi-trip bins and containers help to avoid tons of packaging waste. When selecting our raw materials and auxiliaries, we always opt for materials that are not harmful to health and that allow environmentally friendly processing.

“Our production process is based on a commitment to sustainability and a resource-saving, energy-efficient approach in order to minimise the impact on our environment while saving raw materials. We have been operating a plastic bin recycling process in our own facility for many years. Acting with economic, environmental and social responsibility should not be viewed as an obligation. Randex VR gains first user

Vertical storage lift company Randex has won the first user for its new ‘Randex VR’ virtual reality system, which uses digital models to simulate vertical storage space and performance. Global welding and cutting company WB Alloys, which works across the oil and gas, nuclear, marine, renewables, power generation and construction industries has used Randex VR to create a virtual twin of its new warehouse, populating it with virtual racking, office space and a ‘Randex Compact Twin’ vertical storage system, located in the company’s 5,000 SKU storage area. Randex VR has enabled WB Alloys to plan for best machine fit and optimum picking speeds.

Following go-live, Randex Compact Twin is now providing higher storage capacity with a smaller footprint and faster component retrieval from AB Alloys’ pick face – speeding the picking process and allowing inventory to be fine-tuned using Randex ‘Compact Store’ software, according to the company.

Commenting on its first sale of Randex VR, Randex director James Roberts says: “Planning with VR- and BIM-based digital models saves time and money by testing the space and performance of warehouse configurations before installation. This is especially true of vertical storage, whose proven space-saving and performance-boosting benefits can then be fully realised.”

Compact vertical storage lifts save up to 90% of floor space compared to standard shelving and pallet racking, says Randex. They can manage loads of up to 1.5 tonnes per storage tray and allow warehouse operatives to complete up to four times more picks than in a conventional warehouse environment, with goods automatically presented to the picker.

Compact vertical storage lifts can now be integrated with over 20 leading enterprise systems including IBM Maximo, SAP, JDA, Red Prairie and Blue Yonder.

Randex Ltd is the sole UK distributor for Compact Vertical Storage Lifts, manufactured in Sweden by Weland Solutions, a member of the privately owned, global group Weland AB. Randex customers include Bombardier, DHL, Fujifilm, Howdens, Hutchison Ports, Jaguar Land Rover, Ministry of Defence, P&G, Pfizer, Rolls Royce and Specsavers.

 

AR Racking Appoints US Director

AR Racking has appointed Pablo Montes as the Managing Director of its North American subsidiary in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Montes has a long track record in AR Racking, having held the position of Technical Director for the past 13 years. AR Racking says his appointment will give impetus and greater coverage to projects in the US, a market in which AR Racking has reinforced its strategy with the opening of its office in North Carolina several months ago and which is mainly focused on the execution of large-scale storage projects.

“It is undoubtedly a difficult challenge because of its newness and the characteristics of the country and the market, but we have proven international experience and a sufficiently solid and reliable structure to expand horizons,” commented Montes.

So commences a new professional era in which Montes will bring to the fore his strategic vision, team management, product knowledge and long-term experience in management positions in AR Racking.
