Bolloré Logistics Sold to CMA CGM

The Bolloré Group and the CMA CGM Group announce the completion today of the sale of 100 % of Bolloré Logistics to CMA CGM, it being specified that the transfer of Bolloré Logistics Sweden AB to the CMA CGM Group remains subject to the latter obtaining foreign investment clearance in Sweden.

The purchase price is €4.85 billion euros, on the basis of the estimated debt and cash on the completion date.

As a leading transport and logistics company in France, and one of the main players in the sector worldwide, Bolloré Logistics achieved in 2022 a turnover of 7.1 billion euros, transported 710,000 TEUs of ocean freight and 390,000 tons of air freight, along with a storage capacity of 900,000 m2.

This is CMA CGM’s largest acquisition since its creation in 1978 and constitutes a major step in the CMA CGM Group’s logistics development strategy, complementing its historical maritime transport line of business.

Takeover Deal

Rodolphe Saadé, CEO and Chairman of the CMA CGM Group, declared: “I would like to thank the Bolloré Group for the trustful dialogue we have established over the last few months to successfully finalize this acquisition. Within the CMA CGM Group, we are proud to welcome a French flagship built on years of work and experience. The new entity, made up of CEVA and Bolloré Logistics, is the world’s number 5 in its sector. We will now be able to offer our customers a complete range of services and extend our expertise to new businesses. On behalf of the CMA CGM Group and my family, I would like to welcome the 14,000 employees who are joining us today. Together, we will combine our talents and accelerate our development.”

Mr. Cyrille Bolloré, CEO and Chairman of the Bolloré Group, added: “This is the beginning of a new chapter for Bolloré Logistics’ employees. I am very pleased that they are joining the CMA CGM Group and the Saadé family. They will bring unique expertise and know-how, which have long made the pride of the Group and which will be the pride of CMA CGM tomorrow. It is also a great opportunity for our customers around the world and I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their trust and loyalty”.

New Warehousing at Trident Business Park

St. Modwen Logistics, one of the UK’s leading logistics developers and managers, has started construction on c.125,000 sq ft sustainable warehouse space across two units at Trident Business Park in Warrington.

Built in line with the company’s Swan Standard, a holistic set of development guidelines which place sustainability at the heart of construction, the scheme will boast a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ certification and achieve a minimum of EPC ‘A’ rating, helping occupiers to reduce their operational energy usage and costs. The units stand at 80,000sq ft and 45,000sq ft respectively, with the larger unit equipped with rooftop solar PV. Completion is targeted for late December 2024.

Both buildings will incorporate 10% roof lights which allow the workspace to be flooded with natural light and airtight cladding to ensure a stable temperature all-year round. The units will also be fitted with intelligent LED lighting across the Grade A office space and have smart metering in place to allow usage to be monitored. To further support occupiers’ own sustainability efforts, 20% of total car parking will possess EV charging units.

The units will play a critical role in addressing warehousing supply in the North West, an area which increasingly lacks high quality, sustainable and suitably located buildings for occupiers, according to research by Savills earlier this year.

New Warehousing

Trident Business Park is located in Birchwood, a prime logistics area of Warrington. The site is situated southeast of the M6 and M62 motorway intersection, providing access to Manchester and Liverpool in under 40 minutes.

Jake Shilston, Development Director at St. Modwen Logistics, commented: “The delivery of c.125,000 sq ft of high-quality sustainable logistics space at Trident Business Park will transform previously outdated areas of the site and support hundreds of new jobs. Exceptionally located, these units will provide modern and flexible space for a range of distribution and manufacturing uses. St. Modwen Logistics has a strong track record of developing the flexible modern workspace local businesses need to thrive and grow and this latest phase of development will provide another boost to the local economy.”

The project will also support local businesses and workers with Caddick Construction – which operates its North West office out of Chepstow House elsewhere on the Park – acting as main contractor on the project.

Bespoke Industrial Door Installed

Union Industries, one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of bespoke industrial doors, has helped Esterform overcome multiple issues with the installation of its cutting-edge high-speed Ramdoor.

The project was overseen by Union Industries’ new Technical Sales Engineer, Gary Clayton (pictured). A sales and engineering professional with almost 20 years of experience across various sectors, Clayton will cover the regions across the south of England for the sales division of Union.

Tenbury Wells-based Esterform, the largest independent converter of PET in the UK, faced operational setbacks with its previous high-speed door due to poor performance, escalating repair costs and frequent failures during adverse weather conditions. As a result, it decided to replace its existing door after selecting Union Industries’ robust Ramdoor. The Ramdoor has been engineered to achieve a Class 5 wind resistance rating, making it able to withstand strong winds and to remain operational even during severe weather conditions.

Achieving this rating is supported by a number of the Ramdoor’s features, including its thick Ramhide door curtain material, which is high frequency welded together, giving the strongest fabric joins available. In addition, it has heavy-duty wind-brace and wind-bar systems for added strength, plus extra-deep side-guides, which all contribute to the Ramdoor’s ability to cope with high wind loads and pressures. Like other doors in the Union range, it also benefits from a ‘Crash Out’ facility, in case of vehicle or personnel impact to the bottom beam, thus ensuring minimal downtime and repair costs.

The Ramdoor at Esterform has been equipped with visual and audible warning systems, to enhance safety and functionality in a high-noise environment. These additional extras ensure that employees are alerted to the door’s operation, allowing them to take necessary precautions.

Industrial Doors

Darryl Gunn, Group Technical Manager at Esterform, said: “Union’s Ramdoor has proven to be a game-changer for us, providing a robust solution to our challenges. We appreciate the professionalism and expertise demonstrated by the Union Industries team throughout the entire process.”

Gary Clayton, Union Industries’ Technical Sales Engineer, said: “Union Industries remains at the forefront of innovation, delivering bespoke industrial door solutions tailored to meet the unique needs of its clients. The successful installation at Esterform showcases the reliability and durability of our Ramdoor. We are committed to delivering solutions that not only meet but exceed our customer’s expectations, ensuring optimal performance and longevity. It’s a great time to join Union; their reputation is second to none and I look forward to working with new and existing customers.”
