Zip Technology for High Speed Doors

A new flexible, high-speed door has been launched by Hörmann UK which helps reduce downtime caused by damage and is quick to install. The V 5025 Z door is fitted with innovative zip technology and in the event of a collision the door curtain pulls away from the side rail to prevent damage. It is then automatically re-fed into the rail restoring the door curtain to its original position and operation.

The robust construction of the V 5025 Z door make them suitable for both internal and external installation. Manufactured from high quality PVC they are certified to DIN EN 12424-1, with Class 3 wind load resistance, Class 1 air permeability and Class 2 resistance to water penetration. With an opening speed of 2 m/second V 5025 Z doors help to optimise traffic flow and save energy. Their large, clear vision panels also enhance operator safety and help increase light in the working environment. Additional protection is provided by the safety light curtain which is included as standard.

Installation of the V 5025 Z is quick and straight forward with compact fitting dimensions and extensive pre-assembly, with Hörmann‘s unique SNAP cable concept making it easy to connect. Transport is easy and cost effective as the V 5025 high-speed door is delivered with the drive unit, control, and accessories in a single box. The Hörmann BK FU Z control is included as standard.

Doors can be supplied up to a maximum size of 5000mm x 5000mm, and offer an attractive price-performance ratio, impressive service life and have been designed to be low maintenance. The V 5025 Z flexible door can be used in a combination with Hörmann sectional doors, roller shutters and spiral doors, and are suitable for either new build or retrofit installation. They are also available CO2 neutral as an option.

Freezer and Cold Room Doors Available

Hörmann UK has announced that it has expanded the ‘Construction Project’ range of doors to include insulated hinged and sliding doors for cold rooms and freezers. Suitable for cold rooms at temperatures as low as 0°C and for freezers at –28°C the doors are ideal for use in cold storage facilities, supermarkets and in the food processing industry.

The cold storage doors HID-80 (hinged) and HIS-80 (sliding) are manufactured with an 80mm thick door leaf that is foamed with polyurethane (PU), with both doors featuring bespoke sealing technology to prevent energy loss. Whilst the new freezer doors, HID-120 (hinged) and HIS-120 (sliding), are manufactured with a 120mm foamed with PU door leaf, offering impressive insulation. Both freezer door variants are fitted with an integrated, self-regulating frame heating feature preventing the sealing around the door frame from freezing while minimising energy consumption. This extends the life of the seal and ensures that the doors can be opened easily at any time, with all the door seals being easily removed and replaced in case of maintenance.

Both the cold storage doors and the sliding freezer doors are manually operated, being fitted with extra-large rollers to ensure easy handling with little force required and are available with either a wall or bottom guide. They can also be combined with Hörmann double-action doors, meaning that whilst the sliding door is open during the storage or removal of goods, the double-action door keeps the cold air in the cold room/freezer, reducing energy consumption.

Cold Room Doors

All doors are delivered to site having undergone a large amount of pre-fabrication, meaning that they can be quickly and easily fitted in front of the wall opening within a thermo-block frame.

The hinged doors are available up to a maximum size of 1100mm × 2300mm, whilst the maximum size for the sliding doors is 4000mm × 2800mm. They are available in two hardwearing, surface finishes – stainless steel with a polished or a matt circular textured finish, or in galvanised stainless steel in Grey White (RAL 9002). RAL colours of choice are available as an option.

New Automatic Wheel-blocking System

Hörmann UK have introduced a new Automatic Wheel-blocking system (AWB) for the ultimate in loading bay safety. Designed to counter the risk of the premature departure of a vehicle and ‘vehicle creep’ during loading and unloading operations, Hormanns’ AWB detects a reversing vehicle and securely blocks the rear wheel preventing it from moving – helping to eliminate human error and keeping warehouse personnel and drivers safe.

One of the most versatile automated vehicle restraint systems available on the market, the Hörmann AWB is suitable for use with all types and models of vehicles, from small parcel vans to large articulated lorries. Built to withstand the rigorous conditions of busy loading bay operations, it is rugged in its construction, with all the hydraulic and electronic components being contained within a sturdy galvanised housing which provides protection against dirt and adverse weather.

The system provides a working range of 2825mm and a blocking height of 300mm removing any possible collision with mudguards and vehicle trims. To take account of any unevenness on site it is height adjustable by up to 50mm and is available in either left or right-handed versions. It is quick and easy to fit as it only requires a few anchor points.

Once a vehicle is safely positioned at the loading bay the integrated wheel guide can be activated inside the building at the touch of a button. The driver remains within the vehicle with a warning light/traffic light system on the loading bay to indicate when it is safe to move off. The easy-to-use Hörmann AWB controller can be used as a stand-alone solution or integrated into other Hörmann control systems. It can be simply updated and interrogated using mobile data.

Commenting on the new AWB, Phil Thorpe Industrial Division Manager at Hörmann UK said, “The new AWB from Hörmann is what the market would expect, a robust, well-engineered and practical solution to a problem often seen during loading operations. Suitable for all types of warehousing and logistics facilities we see this product playing a key role in improving workplace safety, reducing accidents, and keeping loading operatives safe in what can be a dangerous area. Our AWB system has been designed with ease of installation, operation, and maintenance in mind, all helping our customers to maximise their loading efficiency and ensure that any downtime is kept to an absolute minimum.”

Industrial Doors Installed at British Army Vehicle Depot

Hörmann are working with Skanska UK on a £259 million Ministry of Defence contract to deliver the Vehicle Storage Support Programme (VSSP) at Ashchurch in Tewkesbury, which will provide modern, sustainable and effective storage and maintenance for the British Army’s land equipment fleet.

The overall project consists of the construction, mechanical and electrical engineering for a complex programme that will see the demolition of 58 buildings, the construction of 12 new buildings and refurbishment of one existing facility, plus renewal of the site’s wide infrastructure. On completion it will provide a centralised facility which will ensure the operational readiness of the Army’s vehicles by minimising the need for maintenance.

The updated facilities will provide Controlled Humidity Environment (CHE) storage, aimed at reducing maintenance costs and any unnecessary deterioration caused by extreme drops or rises in temperature, ensuring that the vehicles are operationally ready at all times. As part of this key requirement Hörmann UK are supplying a total of 226 of their SPU F42 fully automated Industrial Sectional Doors which are split between the 12 new warehouse units and represents one of the largest ‘door only’ projects that the company has undertaken.

Hörmann SPU F42 double-skinned industrial sectional doors are well known within the marketplace, recognised for their good thermal efficiency and air tightness properties – key factors in this major project. The doors specified can achieve an impressive U-value of 1.2 W/m2k for doors including vision panels and a value of 0.9 W/m2k for solid doors. All of the doors supplied provide Class 3 air permeability. This has been achieved with enhanced sealing of the door, with an improved bottom seal, corner seals which improve the tightness between the door frame and lintel, together with infill seals between the ribbing in each section.

All doors are finished in RAL 7016 Anthracite grey externally and Hormann’s standard RAL 9002 Grey white internally and provide a minimum clear opening of 5000mm x 5000mm.

Phil Thorpe, Industrial Projects Manager for Hörmann UK comments, “We are delighted to be working with Skanska on such an important and prestigious project. The selection of our industrial sectional doors was due to their ability to meet the very specific performance criteria to achieve the CHE storage requirements. This was coupled with our ability to work collaboratively with Skanska on what is a complicated industrial scheme with multiple interfaces and trades involved, requiring a high degree of coordination and communication.

In addition, our after sales service and the availability of the comprehensive service and maintenance capabilities that are being provided through our sister company FBS Hörmann played a key role in securing the contract.” Installation of the first doors began in October 2023, with the project expected to be completed by June 2026.

Bespoke Loading Platform

Doncaster based Hörmann Transdek have recently completed the installation of a bespoke loading platform for leading drinks distributor HillsProspect LWC. Having been initially contacted regarding one of their standard loading bay products, Hörmann Transdek worked with the company to design and develop a unique solution to their very specific loading requirements.

HillsProspect LWC operate a fleet of forty vehicles from their Romford distribution facility, ranging from 7.5 to 18 tonne in size, which in the main are loaded using a number of standard dock levellers. Alongside these were two level access bays which were proving not to be as efficient and were causing concerns about operator safety. After initial consultations and design proposals, Hörmann Transdek worked closely with HillsProspect LWC to provide a tailored solution to speed loading operations and improve operator safety.

The resulting loading facility features a raised 56m2 platform which has been constructed within the warehouse, it incorporates anti-slip flooring, safety barriers, steps, and a perimeter handrail to ensure operator safety. Two Hörmann mini docks have also been fitted with a simple, manually operated lip to bridge the gap between the loading platform and the vehicle.
